Tennessee basketball had plans for its first night in Indianapolis.
The Vols went to watch Dalton Knecht play for the Los Angeles Lakers against the Indiana Pacers at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The whole team and the majority of the staff took advantage of the fortuitous timing.
The No. 2 seed Vols (29-7) play No. 3 seed Kentucky (24-11) on Friday (7:39 p.m. ET, TBS/truTV) at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Knecht is in his rookie year with the Los Angeles Lakers, who drafted him No. 17 in the 2024 NBA Draft after a sensational season with the Vols. He was involved in a trade with the Charlotte Hornets in February, but the deal was ultimately rescinded.
Knecht was named SEC Player of the Year and was a consensus first-team All-American in his lone season at Tennessee. He is the highest-drafted player under Vols coach Rick Barnes.
