Tennessee men's swimming and diving won two NCAA titles for the first time since 1996.
Jordan Crooks won the 50 freestyle with a time of 17.91 seconds at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatics Center in Federal Way, Washington, on Thursday. He also won the 50 free in 2023 becoming the fourth swimmer in school history to have won two titles in the same event, joining Andy Coan (1978 and 1980), John Trembley (1973-74) and David Edgar (1970-72).
Crooks bested Florida's Josh Liendo by .32 seconds. Crooks holds the program's record in the event at 17.85.
Crooks was also part of the 200 free relay team, winning the event for the first time in school history. Crooks, Gui Caribe, Nikoli Blackman and Lamar Taylor combined to finish in 1:12.84, a new NCAA championships record.
Crooks clocked a school-record 17.82 split to star the relay before Caribe came in at 17.81, finishing the event as the only two with sub-18 second times.
Blackman and Taylor swam 18.67 and 18.54, respectively, giving the Vols a 48th national title all-time.
"It's hard to express how special it is to have a national champion, and especially at the rate at which swimming is getting faster, to be the best of the best is really extraordinary," swimming coach Matt Kredich said in a school release. "Our team is all about relays. We had four men who have been training together and dreaming together all year long. To have them come out on top, it's incredibly special. To have two NCAA titles in one night, that's awesome."
For the first time since 1979, two UT swimmers made it to the podium in the 50 free. Caribe was third in 18.26, improving his personal best by .18 seconds for the second fastest time in school history.
In addition, Caribe, Crooks, Taylor and Kevin Houseman finished second on Wednesday in the 200 medley relay in 1:20.50.
