The initial wave of free agency signings has passed, but free agency isn't over. The Tennessee Titans have decided to retain running back and return specialist Julius Chestnut on a one-year deal, reports Tom Pelissero.
Chestnut joined the Titans in 2022 as an undrafted free agent. He spent most of 2022 on the practice squad but appeared in six games. In 2023, he played in just three games before landing on injured reserve (IR) with a hamstring injury.
Last season, Chestnut appeared in all 17 games, rushing 22 times for 102 yards, catching two passes for 11 yards, and returning 13 kickoffs for 337 yards.
A versatile player, Chestnut will be the third running back behind Tony Pollard and Tyjae Spears, and will likely appear more on special teams. He has zero fumbles over his career and has shown to be consistent and reliable on the field. He may not be an every-down back, but his ball security on special teams is what the Titans need the most from Chestnut.
The Titans still have a lot of work to do to get this team where it needs to be, so they're likely not done making moves.
