Kris Boyd won’t be returning to the Houston Texans in 2025. The veteran defensive back and special teams ace is off to the Big Apple.

According to KRPC2 Sports' Aaron Wilson, the New York Jets and Boyd have agreed to terms on a one-year deal. He'll now join forces with former Texans Pro Bowl cornerback and first-year coach Aaron Glenn as Gang Green looks to be a competitive franchise in 2025.

Boyd, a former star defensive back at Texas, appeared in all 17 games last season with Houston and played 77 percent of the Texans' special teams snaps. He led Houston in special teams tackles with nine solo tackles and forced a fumble in the playoff game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Perhaps the most memorable moment of his Texans' career came following that fumble at Arrowhead Stadium. Boyd shoved Texans special teams coach Frank Ross on the sideline after committing a penalty on a kickoff during the opening drive.

Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said that he wasn't upset with Boyd shoving Ross and that social media took the play out of context. That didn't mean he was happy with how Boyd responded by taking his off and throwing his helmet during a live play.

"I think it was more so he was fired up - overly fired up - and thought he made a play to help us," Ryans said in January. "So that narrative that he's pushing a coach, that's incorrect."

That eventually factored into the loss on the road, costing Houston a chance to make its first AFC conference championship appearance.

“I got the ball out,” Boyd said after the game. “And as I’m getting up, I look at the screen, I see nothing but white (Houston’s colors) and they’re all pointing that way,” Boyd said, thinking the Texans recovered. “So I was like, ‘Oh yeah, we got the ball, too. Turnover.’ And I was just turnt.”

The Texans should feel content letting Boyd walk in free agency. Last week, they brought special teams ace Tremon Smith on a two-year deal and re-signed M.J. Stewart.

In Boyd's two seasons with the Texans, he totaled 11 tackles and three tackles for loss.
