The NFL has a new highest-paid defensive back and he resides in Houston.
According to reports, Derek Stingley Jr. and the Texans have agreed to a three-year, $90 million contract. At $30 million per year, Stingley is the highest-paid defensive back in NFL history, blowing the top off the cornerback market.
He also gets $89 million guaranteed, the most ever for a cornerback.
This contract comes just a week after the Panthers made Jaycee Horn the highest-paid corner in the league, giving him a four-year, $100 million contract – an average of $25 million per year.
Stingley was the third overall pick in 2022 out of LSU and made his first Pro Bowl last season. He was also a first-team All-Pro, picking off five passes with 18 total passes defensed.
Stingley, 23, has 11 career interceptions, including five in each of the last two seasons. After playing just nine games as a rookie in 2022 and 11 in 2023, he played and started all 17 games last year, putting the injury issues behind him.
He was unquestionably one of the best overall defenders in the NFL last season and the Texans rewarded him with a historic contract.
