Texas A&M (11-10, 0-4 SEC) drops their fourth straight SEC game after a 5-3 loss to No. 22 Vanderbilt (17-5, 2-2) on Thursday night in Tennessee.

It turns out that the offense displayed in their run-rule victory over TAMU-CC did not travel with them on the road. It started great for A&M, with junior outfielder Jace LaViolette tying the all-time program home run record at 56 in the opening frame. LaViolette took a fastball over the left-center wall for a two-run home run to take an early 2-0. However, it was all downhill, with the Aggies striking out 16 inexcusable times during the night.

Ryan Prager didn't have his best night, giving up five runs on nine hits. He played well enough for the Aggie offense to try to put pressure on the Commodores, but the runs never materialized in the key moments to help him out. Even more concerning is that five players struck out at each of their at-bats, going 0 for 7, and that type of output is not going to win games.

Coach Earley tried to switch things up in the game to try to inject some juice into the lineup, but nothing worked. Only scoring three runs in an elite conference is not going to win a lot of games and while fans will never give up on their team patience is wearing thin with this coaching staff.

Texas A&M will face Vanderbilt on Friday, March 21, for Game 2 of the series at 6:00 p.m. CT. The game will stream on SEC Network+.

Final from Nashville.
