Texas A&M's 2024-2025 season ended in the second round of the NCAA Tournament after 5-seed Michigan defeated the 4-seed Aggies 91-79. Head coach Buzz Williams's lack of postseason success continued while reality set in regarding the eight seniors who will depart the program.
Led by star guard Wade Taylor IV, who ended his Aggie career as the program's all-time leading scorer, forwards Henry Coleman III and Andersson Garcia deserve praise for helping build the program from the ground up, leading to three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. Still, Texas A&M's lack of shooting success, especially from 3-point range, has fans divided regarding Williams' future at the helm. Still, that decision can only be decided by AD Trev Alberts or the man himself.
In regular fan fashion, speculation concerning Buzz Williams' potential departure heated up during the first night of the Sweet 16 round, explicitly relating to Maryland head coach Kevin Willard's future with the Terrapins after rumors swirled regarding his connection to the Villanova opening after former New Mexico State HC Richard Pitino accepted the Xavier position.
On Thursday night, TikTok-based bracketologist Nick Bateman made a revealing statement on X, stated,
For more context, Buzz Williams is signed through the 2028 season with a $10 million buyout, while he and his coaching staff have already reached out to a handful of players from the transfer portal, so we are simply in rumor-land until further notice. Also, Williams is a Texas native and has been very vocal about his love for Texas A&M and College Station over the past six seasons.
However, after Maryland's loss to Florida, Kevin Willard provided a cryptic and somewhat revealing comment during the post-game press conference:
Take that as you will.

"Don’t be surprised if Maryland loses tonight, Kevin Willard is immediately announced as Villanova’s head coach, and Buzz Williams is immediately announced as Willard’s replacement at UMD."
"Won’t say more, just don’t be surprised."
