After a late night on Saturday, Texas women's basketball coach Vic Schaefer wasn't interested in a Monday matinee.
Following a 105-61 win over William & Mary in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, Texas coach Vic Schaefer learned about the logistics for UT's next game against Illinois. Two days after its game against William & Mary tipped at 8:45 p.m., Texas will host the Illini at 1 p.m. on Monday.
That schedule rankled UT's coach. Multiple times during his postgame press conference, Schaefer implored the room to "make it make sense."
"I don't understand," Schaefer said. "When I say, make it make sense, I mean, what time is it? It's 11:20 (p.m.) and my kids are going to be back in here tomorrow in the afternoon, and then we've got to get them back up. If we're going to have a shoot around, we've got to be in here at seven in the morning for a one o'clock tip. Illinois, if they're going to shoot, they're going to go seven to eight and we're going to go eight to nine.
"I don't get it. I mean, we played the late game. ... Then to turn around and make us go at one. Why? Yeah, it's problematic just from a recovery standpoint. I think my kids are in pretty good shape and pretty tough, but I just don't get it."
Texas (32-3) is a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Illinois (22-9) is a No. 8 seed. Texas owns a 3-0 record in its all-time series with Illinois with the last game taking place in 2000.
