Quite literally, new Texas basketball coach Sean Miller picked up a big pledge in the portal Sunday.

Matas Vokietaitis, a 7-foot, 245-pound freshman post from Florida Atlantic, became the third portal player to commit to Texas since Miller took over for the fired Rodney Terry March 24. A native of Lithuania, Vokietaitis averaged 10.2 points and 5.4 rebounds a game and shot 67.7% this past season while earning the American Athletic Conference’s freshman of the year award.

He joins small forwards Dailyn Swain (Xaxier) and Cam Heide (Purdue) as the portal additions for Texas. Returning guards Tramon Mark, Chendall Weaver and Jordan Pope have also announced their intentions to play one more season at Texas.

But unlike those other five players that seem lined up for regular minutes, Vokietaitis provides an undeniable presence in the paint. And the Longhorns need some interior oomph after losing their top four forwards from last season in Arthur Kaluma, Jayson Kent, Ze’Rik Onyema and Kadin Shedrick, who all used up their collegiate eligibility. Wing Devon Pryor, a 6-7 sophomore, has been the lone Texas player to enter the portal this offseason. Together, those frontcourt players accounted for 21.4 of the Longhorns’ 35.7 rebounds per game as well as 33.1 of the 78.5 points.

Nic Codie, a 6-8, 200-pound incoming sophomore, has also announced his decision to return to Texas. Next year’s team will also include 6-9, 240-pound John Clark, a four-star forward from Houston and the lone signee in the Longhorns’ 2025 class. Incoming redshirt sophomore Malik Presley and incoming sophomore Jamie Vinson have yet to announce their plans for next season.

Freshman Tre Johnson, the team's leading scorer and the top scorer in the SEC next season, is expected to declare for the NBA draft. If he leaves and Texas holds onto Presley and Vinson, Miller will have five available scholarships for next season's roster.
