The men's swimming and dive team Saturday claimed the first national title for the Texas Longhorns in the 2024-25 academic year.
UT dominated the four-day event, earning an NCAA title in the program's first year under head coach Bob Bowman and its 16th national title overall.
The championship gives the university 10 straight academic years — not counting COVID — with at least one NCAA crown, per UT athletics. Texas women's basketball is a game away from the national semifinals and Texas softball and baseball are among the highest-ranked teams in the country. The athletics department also says Bowman, 59, is the first Division I swim/dive head coach to win national championships in back-to-back years with two different teams. He won it all with Arizona State in 2024.

The Longhorns won seven events in all. UT had a total of 37 top-three finishes at the national meet, including 13 runner-up finishes.
Sophomore Hubert Kós won three individual titles, setting the record at 1:34.21 in the 200-yard backstroke. He broke the previous record by a full second. Will Modglin, also a sophomore, earned All-American honors in the 200 backstroke as well.
Kós also won the 200 IM; he and Modglin were part of the championship 200 medley relay team, too.
On Friday, seniors Luke Hobson and Chris Guiliano finished Nos. 1-2 in the 200 free final with Hobson shattering his own NCAA and American record. Hobson recorded an impressive 1:28.33 to three-peat in the event. Guiliano hit a personal record in his runner-up effort (1:29.42). The two finished in the top 10 of the 100 free as well.
Guilano, along with Nate Germonprez, was also part of the title-winning 200 medley team.
Rex Maurer, a sophomore, won the 400 IM with a personal-best time of 3:34.00. Freshman Cooper Lucas finished sixth and senior David Johnston placed eighth. The sophomore also finished second (14:25.22) in the 1,650 freestyle while Johnson, who won the event at the 2025 SEC championships, finished seventh (14:30.48).
Maurer also won the 500 freestyle.
The Longhorns 400 free relay team of Guiliano, Kós, Maurer and Hobson sealed the title by tying a school record (2:45.12) in a seventh-place finish.
Texas' 490 points beat second-place California (471) and third-place Indiana (459). The rest of the top 10: Florida (315), Tennessee (266.5), Arizona State (248), Georgia (238.5), Stanford (216), NC State (178) and Virginia Tech (107.5).
