Remember 2 years ago when our D line was unable to get a sack and any pressure. Obviously we made some good personel changes but I think this guy really helped change things. His style of coaching is exactly what they needed and I think the same is needed for the OL.

I didn't know what that was about either. I'm not thinking we'll have to see it again. Was it only Kolodziej that ever lined up that way?

In high school we always had our smaller DT line up sideways in hopes of them basically pushing both the G and C in a given direction closing up two of the running lanes. It would leave a big hole where he came from, but we had a solid tacking mike backer who would hit anything that came through there.

Thats the slant technique. And I would say it's really more of scheme issue than a postional coach issue.

I'm not sure I understand the reasoning behind the "cocked NT" concept. I have seen it executed badly by us during the past 2 seasons.

Sometimes the NT will be angled too much so that he lacks leverage so that opposing blockers find it easy to keep moving him in the direction he's pointing at while the RB barrels behind him through the gap he's being moved away from.

It's probably even more complex than that. Because when we see the NT slanting (or being slanted), we don't know if the defensive scheme calls for another player to protect the vacated gap.

Similar thing happens when you see a DE slant toward the center and lose outside contain. We don't know whether or not the scheme calls for a LB or CB to have outside contain or whether the DE simply blew the assignment.
