I would just like to say thank you Randy for signing with the Diamondbacks and bringing us fans a World Series title. Winning 4 Cy Youngs and pitching a perfect game were great but what I will always remember is when you pitched in relief in game 7 of the 2001 WS after pitching 7 innings the night before. Getting the last out in the 8th and mowing down the MFY's in the 9th to keep the deficit to only one run was so big. In my opinion you'll always be a Diamondback.

although i am far from a fan of the Yankees, i'm a fan of Johnson. i dont like the fact that he went to the Yankees, but i dont hold it against him. he's towards the end of his carreer and deserves to stand in the spotlight for a couple of years before he's retired.

the question is whether or not he'll be elected to the HOF has a D'Back or Mariner or even a Yankee. i suppose it'll be a D'Back because of what he accomplished here. 4 CY Young awards and his first World Series.

I agree with all of this and would also like to thank RJ for all his great performances as a Dback.

That being said I will not miss the colossal ***** routine. Randy and the New York media deserve each other.

Analogy

You marry a really talented girl. You spend several really great years together and just when you're down on your luck she comes to you and says, "I've only got a few good years left before I'm over the hill so I'm leaving you to marry your most hated advisary"

First I must say Thank You to RJ for the WS and the 4 CY Youngs, all the K's and all the wins. I hope that you will go into the HOF as a Diamondback.

As to all you who are disparaging him going to the Yankees I am with you. Not for leaving but for going to the Yankees. He is just doing what all great players do today, go to a winner to get to the champonship. Over the last several years many veterans in hockey, basketball and football have done the same thing.

I wish him well, hope he gets to 300 wins as he will probably be the last pitcher to do it in a very long time.

I was ecstatic when we got you, saw nearly every game you pitched here, and have to say - I sure don't look forward to my 28-plus games this year at BOB, so why should I expect you to? Watching you get screwed out of Ws last year was painful.

But the barrel you put us over in this trade - as if we can't do that well enough without help... I think we know you're doing this to guarantee 300 wins and cement your 'legacy.' Well, that's 18 Ws a year for 3 years with the MFY - should be very manageable if you stay healthy. But RJ, it's somehow like padding your resume to do it this way.

"Take what you want," said God. "Take it - and pay for it."

He's the greatest baseball player you'll ever see in a DBacks uniform. May end up the greatest lefty pitcher ever.

True enough... and at least we'll always have 2001 (along with a number of other stellar Unit memories here).

I wish RJ a measure of success... along the lines of getting 22 wins this year while the MFYs finish with a 22 - 140 record.

Why is it OK for Colangelo to buy a World Series with Schilling, Johnson, et al but the Yankees are "evil" for doing it. Plus, George doesn't do it and then cry "I'm broke!" a couple of seasons later. If the Diamondbacks are "broke" how can they sign people to $30 million dollar contracts? Hypocrisy rules at BOB. This kind of mindset will force MLB into the farce of "salary cap" salvation to insure mediocrity and bad baseball for all time.

But, back to the topic: Randy Johnson was a jerk way before he put on a Diamondbacks uniform, he was a jerk in the Diamondback uniform and he will be a jerk in a Yankees uniform.

BUT he's probably the greatest lefthander to ever throw the baseball. Can't take that away from him.

No thank you for Randy from me, he just did what he was paid to do.

The Diamondbacks didnt have a payroll over 1.5x that of the second highest team. Nor did they have 5 starters that had a combined payroll that was near or greater to the entire payrolls of nearly HALF the league. What the Yankees are doing to baseball is sickening.

Nor do the Diamondbacks drive up the price of nearly every coveted FA out there simply by being involved. Many teams have gone on FA binges, but as the now perrennial example, it's understandable why the Yankees take the most heat. The biggest problem is not the Yanks signing A-Rod or trading for Johnson, it's more that they simply eat so many contracts that role players are suddenly commanding salaries most other teams can't afford. I'm not saying anything is "evil," but it's detrimental to the league as a whole.
