Yep... He looks like he's on another planet at the plate. Serious liability right now... Too bad Blum is injured again... :bang:

If we had someone who could play third, Roberts could step in at
second and not miss a beat.

They'd have to do a waiver trade or sign a free agent. There's really no one in the system even close to ready to play 3B, SS, or 2B. David Nick is starting to light up post Walters trade at 2B in High A. Matt Davidson, 3B, has just been OK in his third season at High A, but both of those guys are still growing into their bodies. Chris Owings just got moved to High A. They're all at least 2 years away, probably 3.

It has been said that the best way to hit homeruns . . . is to stop trying to hit homeruns on every pitch.

And yet Johnson and Young (our #2 and cleanup hitters in the batting order) try to uppercut just about every pitch.

Both guys tease us with their potential skills, then let us down with their stubborn behavior at the plate.

Every time they come up (especially in clutch situations), I think, "Let this be the time he sees the light, and puts the team first." Then, it's popup-or-strikeout again.

And our TV and radio announcers slyly mentioning what the score would be if he hits a homerun.

It is almost a microcosm of our elected officials. Don't solve the problem. Just keep going for glory.

And we continue to see ballplayers being paid millions of dollars to supposedly provide an outlet to the everyday frustrations of life.

Sucking sound is right! As the old saying goes, "There is no gravity. The earth sucks!"

Edit: Kelly has just struck out for the fifth straight time. I wonder what management is doing about it.

Hang on Jon, he'll come out of that slump soon. It's only Aug- ... oh.

Of course you said that tongue-in-cheek.

The D'backs currently lead the NL with 127 homeruns. Here is how we've done it individually.

Justin Upton ranks 8th in the NL with 22 HR's.
Kelly Johnson is tied for 18th with 17 HR's.
Chris Young is tied for 22nd with 16 HR's.
Ryan Roberts is tied for 26th with 15 HR's.
Miguel Montero is tied for 37th with 12 HR's.

JUp is batting .299. Johnson is batting .215.

Kelly Johnson is too smart to not realize that a .215 batting average is just not worth it to be 18th in the league in homeruns. Especially with his strikeout total being third highest in the league.

It is not a slump, of course. Kelly Johnson needs an attitude adjustment.

Unlike Stephen Drew, Chris Young and Miguel Montero, Kelly hasn't even been put under pressure of batting cleanup. He hits second in the lineup, for goodness sake. His job is to get on base.

His .296 on-base percent ranks 14th of all the D'backs players so far this season. Get on base, indeed! He has not been a team player this year.

I'd be sort of OK with his .215 average if he wasn't hitting in the 2 slot with a .296 OPB. That's horrifice. Anything sub-.300 is "holy cow" territory -- for anyone hitting at any point in the lineup, but especially for a primary table-setter.

Tony Womack took all kinds of grief for having a low .300s OBP as a lead-off hitter, but he also stole a lot of bases, including 72 in 1999. It was like hitting a double every time he got on base. KJ has no good apology to make. It's just bad.

And, not surprisingly, both Womack and Johnson both had/have the low OBP's because of their stubborn insistence of trying to heat each ball into the air.

To this day, I cannot understand why Tony watched his job gravitate to Counsell for the sake of his three homeruns a year.

Yeah, no idea how Johnson gets so many AB's at 2, and Chris Young at 4. Put Parra or Roberts at 2, and bump the other two down.

Also, just incredibly dumb that the team continues to run CY out there every day considering he's injured. They talked about it quite a bit around the all star game, and his numbers have been atrocious since. Sit him for a week, start Cowgill, and hope Young can get back on track.
