Especially on like 3rd and 8. It works about 8% of the time on 3rd and 10 or less.

Also, I have to share this. On one play on Sunday, on the right side of the defense, we dropped C. Jones into coverage, and rushed Byron Murphy from that same side. For that play, we effectively made Jones the CB, and Murphy the OLB, and of course Jones got smoked in coverage.

Come on VJ. Seriously man?

I'm no DC juza, but he does seem to overthink things sometimes. What do I know though.

Let me throw a fair question at you man. I know you're really down on VJ, so how do you account for the statistical success of the defense over the last two years?

Are you saying with better coaching that this would be a top three defense? Or that it would be the same statistically, but better situationally?

Stats are overrated judging a defense
If u remember correctly todd Bowles and ray Horton(2nd year.) weren't top defense statistically but were very good defense, tough, and when they played hard u had the impression the offense had no chance to move the chain
Vance Joseph defense is soft, weak, vulnerable any time, saw so many third and long converted, eating the clock

I agree with your characterization but what I have a difficulty wrapping my head around is the fact that VJ was top 10 (8th) in scoring defense. Yes, all the metrics can be a mirage, but scoring is the ultimate arbiter of whether your defense did its job or not. We were also 6th in turnovers and tied for 13th in sacks (though tied for 25th in hurries). So I have a difficult time reconciling what I see on the field with what actually happened (scoring defense).

That play can work against some slower WRs or a TE maybe. Not against a player as dynamic as Lockett.

I’ve been saying the same things about wins and coaching.

We tried to confuse Wilson with all of those guys standing at the line... who will drop, who won't. Wilson saw something and audibled to a perfect play. We are tipping something with the zone blitz. There are now a few times in the last half dozen games where it was clear the QB recognized what was coming and audibled. Also, the zone blitz is not effective is there is no pressure on the QB. The offense is supposed to be surprised by who is rushing and who is dropping into coverage. Seattle was not surprised by either.

I remember that play. It was a joke.
