One of the interesting things is that Disney Animation again doesn't have a nomination, considering they've one 9 of the last 11 Best Animated feature Oscars. But with Strange Worlds and now Wish, their quality has diminished. Which is probably why they greenlit Frozen 3.

No Oscar Nod for Greta Gerwig for Best Director is really weak. She's directed 3 movies... all 3 were nominated for Best Picture, yet she only has One Best Director nom. Barbie was a cultural phenomena that was also incredibly well reviewed.

Barbie's a tough one for me. It's like TG:M the year before. Both really good movies and fun to watch but they don't feel like Oscar movies to me. They end up in this no mans land where they're way better then the other big movies but don't have that oscar weight to them.

They've always hammered certain types of films as being "award worthy" while movies like them were always sidelined. It's a shift that would be nice to make but is probably going to take a couple more TG:M and Barbies to do it.

Quit watching the show as the show should only be about entertainment and nothing more. If I want a lecture about something, will watch something else. But need to be about entertainment and fun.

Part of that is the Academy opening up the BP nominee field to more than the traditional five films that it used to be. If they kept it a more selective field, there wouldn't be so many "good, not great" films getting nominated. Heck, even some years when it was limited to just five, it was difficult to assert that all five nominations were worthy films.

I thought Greta was very deserving and I found the movie to be quite touching. But Barbie pays my bills so I may be biased.
