Savoring the peaceful quietude he finds in the mountains of Abruzzo, Jack accepts the friendship of local priest Father Benedetto (Bonacelli) and pursues a torrid liaison with a beautiful woman, Clara (Placido). Jack and Clara's time together evolves into a romance, one seemingly free of danger. But by stepping out of the shadows, Jack may be tempting fate.

Anybody seen this yet? Reviews are all over the place; basically sounds like they are mis-marketing as an action flick and it's more a brooding, slightly retro philosophical study of the 'loneliness of the long-distance sniper.'

It's an art film, but because it stars George Clooney, it's getting multiplex releasing.

The American was neck-and-neck with Machete on Friday. Kinda surprising, IMO. I thought Machete would be way ahead.

OK, saw it with my two usual movie-going friends.
Consensus :
-lovely countryside, some pretty people, fine cinematography.
-George Clooney met his Peter Principle. He just doesn't have the acting chops to pull this off -- neither believable as the hard-edged assassin, nor the lonely, conflicted man underneath. We immediately thought of any number of people who could have done it better, (mind you, we like Clooney usually) but:
-predictable -- formulaic, even.
-good thing the dialogue was minimal because what there was, didn't add much.
-very European but not in a good way.

This movie was a complete bore and a flat out joke.

The only redeeming quality it has was the naked ***** they showed quite a bit of.

A complete and utter snooze fest not even worth the the turn in my QUE with blockbuster.

AZ has it right, just does not pull this off.

I like Clooney when he's in a semi comedy at least, he can not pull off this dark a role, just isn't in him IMO.

There's a few that could but even so just not my cup of tea, it tried to be very European, which is funny given the name.

Agreed. My wife and I turned it off after a while. I don't do that often.
