reliable poster from another board (insidehoops.com) posts the following:

Sarver will feel the hurt from this. A friend of mine works at America West Arena and said for weeks people have threatened to cancel their season tickets if JJ isn't brought back. So far apparently today, some people have followed through, because they've had 25 cancellations. Not much, but its only the first day, we'll see how this affects the Suns ownership and management. I think Suns fans are tired of being jerked around after all the times this team was built, rebuilt, and built again in the past 10 years.

I think the Suns really screwed up. They will regret the day they let him walk.

puleeasssee.... If someone wants to cancel because freakin JJ wants to be a jerk then so be it. I will be more than happy to take their tickets.

So we have the misinformed fan backlash. Again, I am sure they will be watching the team on TV though.

It's amazing to me that some of you, including a moderator, are perfectly willing to mock fans that are legitimately upset over this and feel (rightly, IMO) that they have been deceived and lied to. The Suns repeatedly said they would do one thing, and did another. BTW, we are now done to one player with any kind of continuity on this team. Two, if you include Amare (still on rookie scale). It's that kind of revolving door (in this case, for no good reason other than profit) that genuinely irritates many fans who were just starting to develop some reporte with certain players.

It seems to me that you are exceptionally quick to mock those that don't share your opinion, and I hardly call that moderation, Mr. Sanders.

though he's a moderater he's also a poster and entitled to his opinions. we all mock one and other on this board, but ultimately somewhat respect each other (mind you w/ some it's just somewhat). just b/c he's a mod doesn't mean he shouldn't be able to voice his opinions in the same manner as the rest of us. lay off.

So you don't think in the slightest that it is a little silly to cancel your season tickets before FA has officially started? We don't even know who will be on the roster yet and people are cancelling? Those people aren't fans of the team. they are fans of individuals.

Clif, there are some facts in my post, not just observations. Fans like continuity. Those that aren't obsessively following the sport like many of the posters here feel a stronger bond to a team when there are names that they recognize. Will the casual fan have ever heard the name of Raja Bell, Boris Diaw, Pat Burke, Scott Padgett, or Lucas Tischer? How about Dijon Thompson? But they did recognize the name of Joe Johnson, Quentin Richardson, and maybe even Jake Voskuhl and Steven Hunter. I am not knocking the new additions to our team, because I will be cheering them every time they play. But I know from talking to people that used to be fans that they got sick and tired of the constant turnover with this team. And despite having the best regular season record, winning a ton of awards, and making it to the WC Finals, we still have completely reconfigured this team, including two of our starters. And that is a justifiable reason to be upset, whether you are personally or not. I am personally upset about this.

LOL - but for what its worth I got a 'friendly check-up call' from the Suns ticket guy today to see if I was looking forward to the coming season - not, mind you, trying to sell me any season ticket pkg today, just sayin' hello.... pretty weird. I almsot said, "Call me after you have Amare locked up for a good long time, and we'll see."

I think it's good for Sarver to feel some backlash here. It seems like he's still ignorant of some of the basic facts of NBA life, and he might as well start learning about them right now.

I know Bruce Ratner felt a whole bunch of backlash in NY/NJ after he dumped K-Mart, and it didn't seem to have a negative effect on him opening his checkbook later on. Quite the opposite, in fact.

NO offense, but so what? All teams have turnover. Even the Spurs... they really only kept 1-3 of the same players over the years but still win.. so if fans are that fickle.. then the hell with 'em

Hey, DB's one of the most well-liked and reasonable posters ever to grace a Suns board. The mod had a right to express his own opinion, but so did DB.

The guy happens to be a church preacher. If the mod bans him here, there are other Suns boards where he's a highly respected member. And even if there were no Phoenix Suns at all, there's much more important work he is doing.

I haven't even responded to his post. He can be pissed off all he wants and I reserve the right to think that extreme responses to this situation are reactionary and foolhardy.

In any event, I am a moderator for the Cardinals board not the Suns board. If you look at the bottom of the message board, you will see that Joe Mama and SweetD are the moderators here and do an admirable job.

However, please don't use that tired old message board threat "There are other boards out there."

No one makes you come to this site and no one makes you stay. You are always free to make your own decisions. As this is a private fans board and not a content for profit or page views board, any threat of leaving really rings hollow.

I never knew that so many Suns fans were so weak in their support of the team. I simply cannot believe that people get so emotional over media reports and condemn ownership when truly they have no freakin' clue what went on behind closed doors.

Many of you agreed last summer with the decision not to resign JJ as we hadn't seen anything from him in two years. Now you want their scalps for not giving him the money he has not proved he deserves? One year of being a 3rd or 4th option on a team that provided him with open looks and lanes does not for me make him worth the amount he will receive.

I'm glad the Suns are letting him go, I'm glad they got something out of it, and I'm not on the JJ or Bust bandwagon. Players come and go, it's how this business works. Cheer for your team, not overpaid under proven individuals.

JJ is not a superstar or an elite basketball player, he does not deserve the money he is getting IMO. Those guys change a team and can even carry an average one into the playoffs. Have we seen anything in JJ that shows that potential or quality, I haven't. I guess we'll see how far his leadership takes Atlanta.

Go SUNS!!!!

I don't think you're looking at the context. This was in response to kolobotomy's post, not yours. And by no means do I think I am representing another poster's opinions.

But I will say that these have been awfully provincial and immature responses that I would not expect most of the posters here (a good board IMHO BTW) to make.

If you'll notice, this was never a threat I personally made. I appreciate V9's character support, but I am hardly afraid to debate. And I did not know that you were not a moderator for this particular forum, and I apologize. I also fully mean everything else that I posted on this thread.

It seems to me that this situation has really polarized posters, just like most major decisions do. I just happen to disagree with those that have attributed all blame to JJ and actually think we are better off without him. Just a week ago I read a lot of posters on couple of forums that stated unequivocally that along with Amare, JJ was the future of this franchise, and would be a building block that we would retool around. And now, he's an overrated, fragile loser. That smacks to me of just trying to tear the guy leaving down to make us feel better about losing him. I personally think that JJ will play great for Atlanta and we will regret losing him. I wish him the very best...but I will remain a Suns fan...and I won't be running from this forum or anyone who wants a debate.

what else would you call a guy that would run away from the SAME money on a GOOD team to be on a BAD team? I mean the guy mentions a comment Amare made to him 5 months ago as a reason he wants to leave? Give me a break.. the guy is a head case. I love his basketball skills, but there is no sane reason to run away from the exact same money ( if gambo is right ) just to be the man..

Obviously we disagree, and I am fine with that. I think that you are vastly oversimplifying an increasingly complicated situation that has been poorly handled all around. There is more than JJ's ego involved, for it appears that there is just as big (and probably bigger) an ego on other side of this situation in Sarver. I also think that much of the JJ bashing that is currently going on is just a defense mechanism that many posters unleash on just about anyone who is traded away or leaves the team under less than perfect circumstances. JJ should just shut his mouth at this stage, because he is just feeding those looking for something to hold against him.

What does this have to do with 'ego' from the ownership? What is this 'ego' you speak of, how has it been displayed? They offered him what they felt was fair market value and because a desperate team like Atlanta is willing to give him the max, the Suns should follow suit? This is a business and this is a business decision, one I agree with.

Nobody other than JJ made these comments and claims to the media. If he wants to air his laundry, he should expect a backlash from those who disagree.

We agree on one thing. That was my whole point. He had no reason to open his mouth. The guy made himself look selfish. Who knows how Sarver feels.. he hasn't said anything.
