The Beach is a 2000 adventure drama film directed by Danny Boyle and based on the 1996 novel of the same name by Alex Garland, which was adapted for the film by John Hodge. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio and features Tilda Swinton, Robert Carlyle, Virginie Ledoyen and Guillaume Canet. It was filmed on the Thai island Koh Phi Phi.

Decent film, but I was expecting a little more from a Danny Boyle film. I kept waiting for something to happen, but it sort of just limped along.

You know, I'm a huge fan of Danny Boyle--loved Trainspotting, Slumdog and 28 Days Later--and actually enjoyed Sunshine, but this was pretty hard to get into. It's an interesting premise and it's very well-made, as all Boyle films are. But as an audience member, I felt so disconnected from every single character in the film. Not understanding a word Robert Carlyle says doesn't help either. It does contain the most bizarre sequence he's ever done (the video game through the jungle sequence).
