Two Things

1. Who knows if Ginn is as good a returner as Hester? While, I think that no one is as good a KR as Hester, because he seems to be the greatest ever, based on this season's performance. However, Ginn is at least that type of returner and he is certainly a better positional (WR) player than Hester.
2. The Bears' defense was great when they had Tommie Harris playing. Without Harris they were not so great.

All the people here who want Briggs...still want him? I said before, he is a poor tackler and he showed as much today.

This Bears defense can tackle well but some games they seem to forget all about wrapping up, bringin down and taking good angles.

I thought Briggs had a very good game, he made several third down stops.

That's it in a nutshell. Without big bodies to keep blockers off of Urlacher they become suspect in the running game. You saw that last night when the olinemen got their mits on him. Remember when the Cards played the Bears in the preseason a few years ago? James Hodgins owned Urlacher that night.

Oh, and I agree that Ginn is somewhat of an unknown quantity. I part company with many on this board in that I think he's probably the 4th best receiver in this draft. I think Johnson, jarrett, and Rice are all better pure receivers.

When they were all healthy, they were what they were (i.e. a team that couldn't be run against) and good enough to overcome a sucky QB.

Yesterday, they were what they were (a team lacking Harris and Brown that Indy could run against and with the same sucky QB).

Depth is part of what a team is. Lack of it is what did Indy in. Ironically, Indy had to rely on a backup CB and offensive lineman to step up and get the job done. In the end the Colts had better depth.

And a better QB.

My point - Right after a win or a loss, it's easy to oversimplify and rely on the obvious to explain things.. I think the reasons were more complex and subtle than merely Grossman sucking. The absence of Harris and Brown played an important part, the interior of the Colts DL (particularly Booger McFarland) generally contained Thomas Jones, some of those Bear turnovers were due to thunderous hits and, frankly, my MVP Award would go to the Indy center,Jeff Saturday.

Great team? The Bears? You've got to be joking. Except for Urlacher, that was the sorriest team I've ever seen in a Super Bowl. Even the defense sucked.

The final score did not reflect the utter ineptitude of the entire Bears team.
i agree, lets remember that the cards had these guys beat, and we got spanked by the damn raiders. they played weak teams all year. their highlight was beating a seattle team that was missing shaun alexander. need i bring up the green bay game. CHICAGO SUCKS___PERIOD

Plus, credit Tom Moore and the Colts' offensive coaches for focusing their gameplan on power running to suck the vaunted Bears' linebackers in, and exposing their weakness as pass defenders (man, was the slip pass to the RB in the seam open all night, or what?)!

Solo Tackles 113
Assisted Tackles 21
Sacks 1
Tackles for loss 8
Forced Fumbles 4
Ints 2
INT yards 18

Yeah lets avoid him at all costs and franchise Orlando Huff instead :sarcasm:

of course i am in total agreement and as i said a long time ago he is actually as good as urlacher but on the outside...nicer to ENLIGHTEN our cardinal fans rather than being sarcastic...no??? i have always felt that getting briggs would be a "certain" type of dream that won't come true tho"

Slow down, there, cowboy.

As good as Urlacher? No way. Urlacher is mentioned with the all-time greats (and deservedly so, IMO). Briggs is good, bordering on very good. But he's not "great."

He'll go down like an Otis Wilson type.

Grossman isn't great but he's not the albatross that dragged down the Bears. The Colts DL flat out owned the Bears OL. Outside of the one big run by TJ name one other big play that ANYONE on that Bears offense made. Jones had nowhere to run, Gorssman had a defender in his face every time he dropped back to throw and the recievers didn't do much to help. Peyton Manning (a much better QB) didn't win a championship untill he was in a position to make plays without being planted in the ground every play.

but urlacher is a beast

A big Amen to that. I will never forget Urlacher chasing Reggie Bush and not losing ground in the game in Chicago.

Urlacher is better than any other defensive player at any position in the entire NFL.

And Skkorp - let us not forget that there were a few of us who "pipe-dreamed" about us trading down with the Bears (to gain one or more picks) and then picking Urlacher.

The sorriest team I have ever seen in a Super Bowl was the last time the Bears were in it (1985 Team - '86 SB) when they trashed the Patriots 46-10.

as you may have noted i said, at his position he plays it as well as urlacher plays the middle....urlacher is outstanding no doubt...but when he is met head on he can be taken out of a play with not too much difficulty...his lateral movement is the best...no doubt...if given a "choice" between the two..i would take urlacher...by the way....he is actually at this point the fourth best all time bear mlb......they do have three hof mlb's.

"The Bears are who we thought they were and that's why we took the damn field. Now if you wanna crown em, then crown their ass. But the Bears are who we thought they were, and we let them off the hook."

Good old Denny may have just been right.

Bears sucked...that's who I thought they were

I wish we could suck like the Bears. When is the last time we won 14 games? They have probably won more games in the past two years than we have in the last 4-5 years. The Bears are not who I thought they were. They were pretty dam solid. Just think many on the board really wanted Brian Ulracher who as I remember we passed on. Never did hear many "I told you so". I was one of the idiots that were not that high on Ulracher so you can tell me I told you so.

Yep. Even the defense was overrated the last few weeks of the season. For all the blowouts that have happened in the Super Bowl, that ranks up there as one of the most lopsided performances ever. Only the kick return gave the illusion of a close game. Even after the kickoff TD, I never felt like the Colts would lose.

The Bears played the last 6 or so games without two of their defensive standouts. I am no Bear fan but give them their due. When healthy they and Baltimore were the best defensive teams in the NFL. They also played the superbowl without Cedric Benson and their running game was based on Benson and Jones being healthy. This sure brings me back to the Cards need for at least one more good RB. You are not going to make it through the season with one good RB like we have. We are going to have to come up with a good second RB!!!!!

Exactly why we should add AP if he is there at #5

Didn't we pick Thomas Jones over Urlacher...seems like that was our pick...I guess I could look it up...however...I am too lazy for that right now!

i'm with you!! living in chicago i get to see and have seen a lot of urlacher...he is an outstanding player....but when the top linemen face him straight up he can and has been had!! what seperates him from the elite...butkus, singletary lewis (at his best) is those guys were realtively unstoppable....urlacher from side to side is the best in the game today from the middle.

Anyone see Tom Brady look like Barry Sanders against Urlacher? Getting juked by Tom Brady puts you a knotch below Singletary and Butkus, in my book.
