You college fans may remember this. i know I do from watching 3 of his games but the big cat (Andy Katzemouyer(sp?)) was cut by the pats. I dont ever remember him playing for the pats at all. What was wrong? Injury?

But man this guy was as good if not better then arrington in college. He is the type of big boy you want behind a speedy dline.

Just a thought. He may have been a total bum since being drafted.

Total bum. Head case. Injury concerns (neck injury that he never recovered from mentally). Had a pretty solid rookie season (11 starts, 77 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 11 tackles for loss, 1 INT returned for TD), then had the injury in 2000, and never returned to the team.

To use Coach Mac's words, "...you can't play in this league and be a dumb-@$$."
He recorded one of the all time low Wunderlik scores at the draft combine

Also, yes, he was injured.

The New England Patriots released injury-plagued linebacker Andy Katzenmoyer.

The Patriots drafted Katzenmoyer out of Ohio State with their second pick in the first round of the 1999 draft. He started 11 of 16 games as a rookie and recorded 107 tackles, including 3½ sacks, but he damaged a disc in his neck against Buffalo.

He had surgery in November 2000 and missed the second half of the season.

During training camp last July 26, he left camp for two days without permission, citing concern about a feeling in his neck he experienced the first time he was hit.

He later said he had "panicked" and that he never contemplated retirement. He was placed on injured reserve on Aug. 28 and did not play during the season that ended with the Patriots winning the Super Bowl.

Katzenmoyer played in 24 games, starting 14, for New England and had 129 tackles.

Exactomundo.

This guy was supposed to have the ultimate LB/footbalkl player mentality, but instead was a total bust.

You mean the big bust? He's been out of football since 2000. From what I can remember he suffered a neck injury. He's one of those guys that's a great college player but an average pro player.

Wrong Wonderlic score has nothing to do with football playing. Simms Culpepper Marino all scored low on Wonderlic and were excellent football players. Lots of NFL players score low on Wonderlic and have great careers. Wonderlic doesn't measure football ability at all.

BTW, Katzenmoyer <sp> was a bust in much the same way Andre Wadsworth was a bust. Career ending injury!

No, I think it's a little different. Katz had a great rookie season for a MLB. He was putting up decent numbers before the injury in 2000. All the reports were that the neck injury was healed, but he was tentative coming back from it. Wadsworth never recovered from the knee injuries. Katz recovered from the neck down, but his problems are now above the neck.

I don't know the details of Katz' injury or recovery... but I do know that coming back from any spinal injury is tentative at best, risky at worst!

Look no further than Anthony Clement! He will never be the player that he might have been, had his back injury never occurred. You may recover your health following a spinal injury, but I would say that you never fully "recover".

Now consider that Katz played LB. The definition of that position is "driving your face through the opposing players chest". It's really no surprise that he was finished!

Really?

Can you elaborate I've never heard that line of thinking before but it's quite interesting.

I mean why does virtually every team in the NFL use the test if it's so stupid, you really should elaborate I think a lot of NFL teams would be grateful for the feedback.

I wonder if Bush had a Wonderlic score of 2, what would vikesfan think of the test then?

(BTW, this is not a political post, I MIGHT be talking about Steve Bush. ;) )

no, he stunk well before the injury. in fact, he went from being a possible top 5 pick his sophomore year in college to like 20th after his junior year and then just spiralled downhill thereafter prior to the neck thing. the knock on him was that he was just plain old stupid. couldn't pick up the nuances of the nfl game. and it's ironic, 'cuz if i remember correctly, his parents are both professors. but man did i want him instead of lj at the time of that draft...

Search the archives I have made the case against Wonderlic in several threads.

It wouldn't mean anything in terms of his football ability. He had terrible marks in school btw.

You and others don't know what the hell you're talking about when it comes to Katzenmoyer. He was starting at LB as a rookie in one of the most complex defensive schemes in the NFL.Granted he's not book smart but he's football smart. He suffered a neck injury and came back the next year to camp and was STARTING again. He re-injured the neck early in camp and is now out of football. It's similar to the neck injury that put Chris Spielman out of football. But i guess, according to some of you, he just a big puss who couldn't come back from an injury. You guys are right,i guess he should risk paralysis since he was a 1st round pick.I think Michael Irvin, Chris Spielman, Darryl Stingley, Mike Utley are all a buch of pusses. They should all be back ou there playing. Suck it up and get out there and earn your money :computer: .
