I have to admit this stuff is really a guilty pleasure, I love watching them improvise stuff.

The first season featured a windmill for power that was incredible in how impressive it was to build from what they had.

The 2nd season they might have outdone it with a solar array that tracks the sun.

They also made a power washer into a generator that ran off a gasification from burning wood, lol, who would of thought of that one?

They have one guy they call the professor, he comes up with these things, if you're ever going to be in this kinda situation, find some really smart dude like him, he's a hoot.

I love shows like this for just the entertainment value plus watching them argue is fun too.

HBO could do this with nudity involved and rule ratings, just destroy them, someone needs to pay me to tell them how to market this stuff.

Vegas, baby, yeah!
Great show. Love it.

The IBM professor from season 1 was great. The only possible gripe I have about that show is that the people they choose are not always realistic. The chances you'll get an accountant or lawyer are about 1000 times greater than if you get an brilliant IBM guy (he later appeared on some commercials for them).

The lessons learned and the improvisation is excellent.

I agree, probably as likely as not to get a copier salesman, "The Postman reference for anyone who gets it".

Also they get carried away with certain situations which leads me to believe they're coached on their reactions.

Plus being filmed I think makes them tend to lean towards being nicer than they would if it were real.

They do as good a job as you can given it's staged.

Based on this thread I've rented it through netflix. I'm halfway through season one and I'm underwhelmed. I want to like it, but I just don't.

the innovation is pretty great, though. That solar array is pretty impressive... I wonder if it would have made it more difficult had all the panels not been from the same manufacturer?

OK, where is the thread for The Colony (Netflix), you know the one with Sawyer from Lost married to Julie from TWD?

I thought for a moment that we had a conrad sighting. He wasn't everybody's cup of tea, but I enjoyed his contributions. :(

If you can ever find it, the scifi channel had a War of the Worlds series. The first season is the best, because the aliens that came to earth would do the same things and make our common devices into other things. It was always cool to see each episode to see how they would cobble together parts to make new machines. I believe in season two a new wave of aliens reaches Earth and brings their own bio based technology, and it kind of loses it's charm after that.
