The Constant Gardener

Release Date: August 26, 2005
Studio: Focus Features
Director: Fernando Meirelles
Screenwriter: Jeffrey Caine
Genre: Drama, Thriller
MPAA Rating: R (for language, some violent images and sexual content/nudity)
Website: The Constant Gardener

Starring: Ralph Fiennes, Rachel Weisz, Danny Huston, Bill Nighy, Hubert Koundé

Plot Summary: Based on the best-selling John le Carré novel and from the Academy Award-nominated director of "City of God." In a remote area of Northern Kenya, activist Tessa Quayle (Rachel Weisz) is found brutally murdered. Tessa's companion, a doctor, appears to have fled the scene, and the evidence points to a crime of passion. Members of the British High Commission in Nairobi assume that Tessa's widower, their mild-mannered and unambitious colleague Justin Quayle (Ralph Fiennes), will leave the matter to them. They could not be more wrong. Haunted by remorse and jarred by rumors of his late wife's infidelities, Quayle surprises everyone by embarking on a personal odyssey that will take him across three continents. Using his privileged access to diplomatic secrets, he will risk his own life, stopping at nothing to uncover and expose the truth - a conspiracy more far-reaching and deadly than Quayle could ever have imagined.

Amnesty International is promoting this movie, so I may go see it.

I am thinking about buying the book, too.

Ever.

Says you? There are a lot worst out there...at least it's different...

We saw it this weekend, and it was really good...a bit depressing and heavy, but the scene's in Africa and the acting were amazing.

I didn't say the movie sucked, I said the title did (it doesn't make sense and doesn't make anyone want to go see it), and yes, "Says Me" :D

Apparently, I'm not alone...

(about halfway down, someone posted almost the exact thing I did)

(same idea)

Ah ha! And here's a real print article by someone paid to write it saying the same damn thing...

Worst Movie Title: It's a solid tie between "The Island" and "The Constant Gardener." A movie title should pique your interest, and neither of these titles gives cause for more than a cursory glance. The worst offender is "The Constant Gardener," a film about a man seeking the truth about his wife's murder in Africa. How many 70-year-old grandmothers thought they were going to see a story about cultivating roses?

Amazing, simply amazing Mike! :D

lol, yeah, I guess it doesn't pique interest...and actually, his "gardening" in the movie is a small part.

Move movies like this, good movies, have titles that don't follow mainstream styles...hence I like them better a lot.

The Shawshank Redemption isn't exactly the greatest title in the world either. ;)

Man this movie hit me hard. Very hard. Had my wife not been present I would have cried like a baby for some many reasons.

Th shock of thinking your wife is unhappy only to find she loved you more than you ever knew, but now she is dead.

The sickening feeling you get in your stomach when you realise pharmasutical companies actually do this to these poor children and the "civilised" countries turn there heads so they can get a few extra jobs.

So much more, this may be one of the greatest movies I have ever seen as far as the emotions it made me feel. 4 days later and I still have the same, fresh feelings.
