Pitt & Blanchett Aboard Fincher's Button
Source: Variety
May 4, 2005

Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett are in talks to star in the long-gestating adaptation of the F. Scott Fitzgerald story The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which David Fincher is directing from a script by Eric Roth.

Variety says Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures are co-financing the project, with Paramount handling domestic rights and WB taking international. Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall are producing.

The story centers on an elderly man who gets younger as time passes and encounters complications when, at age 50, he falls in love with a woman who is 30.

On a scale a of 1 to 100 this movie was 1000. It is the re-encarnation of Forrest Gump. If gump was a 10 then this is at a minimum of a 9.

Brad Pitt was phenominal.

Wow.

I am definitely interested in this one. Looks good and I believe it is getting good reviews, from what I have heard.

Some people have the attention span of a gnat. Wanted to go see it but was overruled because "it was too long."

I had no idea it was that long and to be honest with you it did not feel that long at all.

On a side note how do you do a spoiler tag?

I eventually did get to see it - fantastic film. Didn't feel long at all since I was riveted to the screen the whole time.

It is basically a sad love story.
While I didn't agree with him when he left Daisy and his daughter, later on I saw why he was right.
The digital technology where they used Brad's head on some old man's body was awesome.

I thought it was good but man it was long and kind of slow for me. Still worth seeing though.

With everything that happened to me over the last couple of years, the end of the movie really affected me. I am not sure why I didn't think about it ahead of time and add it up when he would die.

Ugh, we all left this saying it was a blatant redo ripoff of Gump. How do you make a three hour movie from a short story. With a bit of editting it could have been good.

Way too many tangents that were unnecessary.

Button vs. Gump.
1)Main character is "special" in some way: check. 2) Set in the South: check. 3) Mother is really really nice: check, 4) Main character is involved in several major moments in American history: check, 5) Male and female leads meet as kids: check, 6) as soon as male lead might be ready to get together with female, she is not ready: check, 7) she finally comes to him: check, 8) Male lead has a "commissioned" friend: check (Lt. Dan/Captain Mike)......:bang:

Same scriptwriters but Gump didn't age backwards and
didn't die as an infant at the end. Gump actually lived on as Gump Jr. but I never believed it was really his child.

I thought it was fantastic and also saw the resemblence to Gump. The make-up artists were unbelievable. Brad Pitt looked so young in the ballet studio, and I still don't know how they put Pitts head on Ben's little, old body. His acting and expressions effectively captured the little boy trapped in the old body. Pitt's performance was Oscar-wothy.

Movie was totally overrated IMHO. It definitely felt like you were watching a 2 hour and 45 minute movie. Acting was good but not Oscar worthy IMHO.
