It's interesting to me to read the "positive" comments now trickling out about Brown, Thomas, Niklas, etc.
I know there was a lot of teeth-knashing and hand-wringing on here when the choices were 1st announced last week.

HOPE is sometimes very mis-placed. You "hope" simply because you want to hope. It often flies in the face of reason and against all odds.
...And I absolutely agree that hope is always better than despair.

FAITH on the other-hand is trusting in someone/something that has earned your trust due to previous results.

What does all this have to do with football, you ask?

SIMPLE...I TRUST BASK!

Did the draft go exactly as they envisioned? From what I've read, NO, and that's really not all that surprising as I believe it rarely, if ever, does.

Still, I believe that when the actual games begin we'll be very pleased with this years' draft class and their contributions to the team, both on and off the field.

MARK IN SC :)

A funny story from several years back. It's worth-repeating.

Over-heard on Draft Day by two Jets' fans when Parcells was running the show and just after a very non-descript "pick" had been announced from the podium.

JET FAN #1..."Hey, ya' ever heard of this guy?"

JET FAN #2...(response) "NO! BUT...it's a Parcell's pick so it's gotta' be GOOD!

I can understand your position but after what happened with Whisenhunt I'm not ready to have that kind of faith in the new/old guys yet.

I do hope that we won't have the peaks and valleys that we got with Whiz. Takes some talent to go, after the Super Bowl, 14-9, then 3-15 then 11-2 then 1-9.

We wont know much till camp and the evaluation of each player and how they fit. I right now have faith in the fO. They did a great job last year making adjustments on the field as well as bringing people in till the last minute before kick off.

I'm not that well versed on the background on any of these new players. Yes, I've seen some tape and watched the positive view given. The thing I always go back to is that they were for the most part stars on their college team. They know the game and will learn much more. Very few are ready day 1.

We have improved ourselves at some important spots on the line, on D, and on special teams. If Palmer can play like last year with more time we should be able to play anyone.

Excellent points, guys...

RE: WHIZ'. To me, it's kinduv' hard to judge just how much of an effect/control he had on the team. I strongly suspect that Graves called most of the "shots" and Bill Sr. controlled Graves during those years. I will say that Coach Whiz' was smart enough to recognize he had a good thing with Kurt and the Gang and got out of the way.

I BELIEVE that things are night and day with Michael running the show. There seems to be a great deal more cohesion in decisions affecting the football team.

...And that is what I'm MOST excited/confident about going forward.

Mark in SC :)

Fact is, we play in the toughest division in football...
and we're considered these-days to have a legitimate "shot."
I can live with that. Especially in light of so many years of futility.

We hope they can bandaid the offense into something respectable.

I have faith in our defense being lethal.

I have faith the top 4 picks can make a contribution this season.
I hope the last 3 stick around long enough to have a chance.

Jake, I don't believe we will have those kinds of problems with BASK. Whiz/Slug NEVER once improved our offensive talent. BASK patched that up in one year, and turned our stout defense into a power house. This makes a second year for marked offensive improvement, and the defense still appears to be stellar. That may be cause enough for you to believe in their judgements.

Faith? Hope?...

Fellas, I have no idea what it is I am infected with. But for the first time ever I am not anxious to see what happens this season...just quietly awaiting.

kinda like in Rocky,...where he is just sitting there in the locker room with a towel over his head until the guy pops in and says, "it's time Rock"....and he just gets up and walks out to the ring.

when we hear "ding, ding"...it's on.

I'm glad you brought that up Oaken. I felt that way very early on last year, and the feeling just kept getting stronger with each move that BASK made. I still feel confident and secure that BASK are pushing all the right buttons and opening all the right doors.

You can even see it in the way Keim just promoted some of the scouts, and streamlined the scouting department. They have done a great job in getting us the right talent, and he is acknowledging that. He and BA are continuing to do the right things, and to do the 'right thing by people'.
