The Draft. Kool Aid free.

Floyd- Great pick. Its not his ability so much as its his fit in our system that made him such an ideal pick. His game speed isnt that fast (hes not a deep threat). His routes and breaks are sloppy (common for big WRs). Inconsistent hands (he drops balls). Obvious character concerns. But he has shown maturity in being accountable for his actions. He is a big body who can outmuscle smaller DBs 5-10 yards from the line. Our team: QB and OLine is not designed for down the field plays. That is why we need a big guy who can catch balls in traffic, quickly after the snap. Whiz said it himself "he changes field position". Thats an underhand way of saying "all his catches might only be 7 yards downfield. But its progress".

Fleming- Great pick. Another system fit guy. There were more talented CBs on the board, but this guy is a Horton prototype DB. I am so happy we addressed the DB corps in this draft because we were so thin. If any of our guys wnet down, wed be so screwed. With Fleming and Bethel, we now have a deep depth chart which will foster real competetition. I know im not the only one tired of watching our CBs give up 20 yard plays.

Massie- Im happy we got him but Im still concerned as to why he fell so far. The 'Inexperience' explanation doesnt cut it for me. That can be said about nearly everyone in the draft in some way. Ive watched alot of tape (and by tape I mean youtube videos) on Massie and im not thrilled. Hes 'good'. Not great. ITs clear his technique is lacking and hes not the strongest guy. If you watch the Miss v Bama game, Upshaw blows by him with ease. I do believe he will be an improvement to the Oline, but I dont think guys should expect a pro bowl RT. Our line will still require King to be in there most snaps to help with blocking. Good value pick.

Senio- Really good pick. I think he can be a starter at guard someday. Big guy. Good strength. Adds depth to the line because now both he and Snyder have T experience in case of emergencies.

Bethel- First and foremost: the guy is physical. Guy hits hard and probably had Horton drooling when he saw him still available. Again, adds depth to a weak DB corps. His biggest knock is his lack of competetition. Not many Elites play Presbytarian. That shouldnt say hes not talented. Hes a big guy. 6ft, 200. Another system fit over talent. Our D doesnt have alot of well known names, yet last year (at the end) we had one of the top Ds in the league. That was because of Hortons system and plugging guys who fit with that is more important than talent level. I dont necessarily believe he will be a starter, but Im looking forward to seeing what he can do.

Lindley- I dont like the pick. I like that we took a QB late, try to find a diamond in the rough, but this guy is too Derek Anderson for me. Huge arm, inaccurate. Besides, I like bartell as our 3rd. (or maybe this means we cut Kolb and Lindley is our new 3rd??) In that case, I LOVE THIS PICK!

Potter- Developement/ project guy. Dont expect a whole lot out of him. Maybe he can suprise us and make a run for the RT spot. Its just good to have depth.

This was a good draft. I think the thing im most impressed with was the FO sticking to their board. BPA, every round. There were guys on this site and twitter losing their minds because we didnt reach on Olinemen early. The BPA strategy proved to be the best way of going into a draft. We got great talent and filled needs without having to lose out on anyone.

As for the rest of the NFCW:

I thought the Rams had an overall good draft. Think they dropped the ball a little bit. Had an opportunity to really push their team into contedership and some of their draft picks didnt make sense. The only thing that caught my attention was Trumaine and Jenkins. We cant pretend like the Rams dont have an extremely talented DB corps now. The one thing we can hang our hat on: size. This is why Floyd is a perfect fit for us. The guy is 6'3 220. Jenkins is something like 5'10. so is cortland. Trumaine is 6'2. Hes the one guy Im concerned about. But for how many picks they did have, I think we dodged a bullet.

Seahawks - I thought they had a terrible draft, again. Nothing to be said. Doesnt take away from the FA they had. They picked up Flynn at QB. We dont know how good he is, but all we do know is hes probably alot better than Tavaris Jackon: thus htey got better. Marshawn Lynch should never be taken lightly either.

49ers- They hada good draft. AJ Jenkins was a suprise, but he is a legit deep threat. I dont know what to think about LaMichael James. On one hand, he is very, very talented. On the other, hes also very, very small. I dont know how hes going to survive the NFL. Hes not compact like Gore. Hes slender and fragile looking. Overall, Im confused in how they think they will fit these guys into their team. How many WRs do they have now? Like 6-7? All of whome were starters at one point in time. Do not question the 49ers have a very talented WR group now. One reason why we should be happy with our CB overhaul in the draft. But I question where is LaMichael going to fit in that backfield? Gore is still very good. Hunter proved to be a beast. Jacobs sucks, but hes there too. And now James.

Lindleys scouting report reads a lot like Andrew Walter to me only with less accuracy...big arm, smart, well liked by teammates but slow footed, lacks instincts.

He is a 6th rounder so...ehh, whatever. If he makes it great if not no huge loss. IMO We should take a flyer on late round QBs every couple of years just in case we strike gold.

if you are looking for a weak armed qb that is accurate take a look at the USFA we signed.

Haven't heard anything about him dropping passes so I'll chose to ignore that until a couple of other posters confirm. You are completely (IMHO) wrong about this. It means he can get chunks of yardage, not 7 yrds at a time.

Fleming- Great pick. Another system fit guy. There were more talented CBs on the board, but this guy is a Horton prototype DB. Fully agree. The thing is by the 2nd half of the year our pass D was pretty darn good already so really looking forward to when it improves even more.

Massie- Im happy we got him but Im still concerned as to why he fell so far. The 'Inexperience' explanation doesnt cut it for me. That can be said about nearly everyone in the draft in some way. I heard it was more to do with machurity and technique then experience. How many times did Upshaw "blow by him" in that game?

Senio- Really good pick. I think he can be a starter at guard someday. Big guy. Good strength. Adds depth to the line because now both he and Snyder have T experience in case of emergencies.

I agree.

Especially on ST's this year. Dude has blocked 9 kicks in his college career.

Anyone who can upgrade the QB unit is good by me. Kolb isn't getting cut and I say that knowing what happened with ML.

Potter- Developement/ project guy. Dont expect a whole lot out of him. Maybe he can suprise us and make a run for the RT spot. Its just good to have depth.

He needs a lot of time with Lott. Hope he shows enough that he is a back up this year and not exposed to the waiver wire on his way to the PS.

My hats off to you as I remember you telling posters to chill and that we may draft 3 O-lineman in this draft.

I also agree that the FO did a masterful job of not only setting up and trusting their board but having a good feel for knowing they didn't need to trade up on several occassions.

I'm hanging my hat on at least one of their talented DB's will blow up on them due to the character issues. Even when Fisher had an established culture and locker room he couldn't control Pacman.

Seahawks - I thought they had a terrible draft, again. Nothing to be said. Doesnt take away from the FA they had. They picked up Flynn at QB. Carrol does think he is smarter then everyone else. Reaches and more reaches.

The 49ers are trying to take the next step and very well may do so. Just like every team it hinges on the play of their QB and Smith doesn't scare me............yet.

Hey aren't you the guy who is always posting that drafting QBs after the first round is a waste of time?

:D

It was a ridiculous pick. Even for a 6th round selection. Almost as ridiculous as signing Blake Gideon as an UDFA.

Kolb has to really have had a boost to his confidence, first with the Manning pursuit and now the Cards drafting another QB. Let's hope Kolb takes the Massie approach and enters this season with the determination to prove he's the man in Arizona.

Busted.

I didn't and don't like the use of a pick beyond rd 2 of the draft for a QB. I was once in the camp that you should follow the Holgrem and Reid camp that drafting mid round QB's every couple of years was a good plan.

Then I did the research on how many non 1st rd QB's have been to a SB.

I am as ardent supporter of Whiz as anyone but I'm not sold on his ability to draft QB talent.

Several peoples opinions I respect and trust like drafting mid/late rd QB's so I am mellowing in my stance a bit.

Feet to the fire, I agree with you and we should have used the pick on something other than a QB.

I suspect Lindley will be a cut by the time training camp ends. Waste of a pick. They could have taken a flyer on a OLB or another G or T. Does anyone really think Lindley will replace Bartel or Skelton? At the very least another position player could have made an impact on special teams. Lindley can't even do that.

Not my favorite pick either (It comes down to whether you feel a QB prospect with a reputation for shaky or erratic decision-making can - with good coaching - rid himself or that behavior vs. the belief that "once a screw-up/always a screw-up").

We usually carry four QB's early in camp (especially with the new expanded roster) to handle all the snaps (just as we normally carry 2 kickers and 2 punters). The kid is said to have all the physical qualities; we'll just see how he'll pick up the mental aspects of the pro game (I'm not optimistic but his upside might be worth a 6th round pick).

My guess is he ends up on the practice squad.
