I tivo'd the pilot of The Dresden Files last week and watched it and the second episode last night.

I really like this show. It's very entertaining, IMO. Not taxing on the ol' noggin, but fun.

Anyone else catch it?

I enjoyed the pilot even if it didn't make sense to me. I'll probably keep watching but only because it's shown right before Battlestar Galactica.

Ehh. I am luke warm to it. They are a little casual with the entire I can do magic thing. I think the show has potential but I want it to pick up a little more or I will probably lose interest.

If you could "do magic" since you were a kid, it now pays your bills and is what your life revolves around, don't you think you might be casual about it, too? Or, everytime something magical happened, do you think you'd flip out in awe?

I think they handle the magic well--causually because to him it IS casual. It's as normal as the sun rising in the east.

That's not what I meant. I meant that the magic being wielded is a little "public". The characters are really casual about using it in front of people or telling people.

I watched the new episode last night (tivo'd... I think it airs live on Sunday nights).

I still like this show, and recommend it to sci fi junkies.

Just started watching it. Dresden has a similar tude to House... Not quite as sarcastic but an overall 'I don't give a rat's ass' attitude.

I can't help but get the feeling that Dresden either has more power then he knows or is part of something much bigger to be revealed later. I just don't buy the investigator plotting aimless through life (who happens to be a Wizard thing).

There has to be more too this then a magical version of Magnum PI.

It's apparently based on a series of books....I'll never pick them up, but it gives me hope that the TV show has legs.

SciFi Channel Could Pull Plug On 'Dresden Files'

Network late in making decision

By MICHAEL HINMAN

The chronicles of Harry Dresden may last just a single season on SciFi Channel.

The network was supposed to decide last week whether or not to give "The Dresden Files" a second season, and as time wears on, things are looking a little bleak for the show.
"SciFi mostly responds to their own internal marketing studies, several of which they've already done on the show," executive producer Robert Hewitt Wolfe told fans on author Jim Butcher's official Web site. "Their research hasn't said what we've been hoping for, unfortunately."
While other show's on SciFi Channel's lineup already have received green lights or not, "Dresden Files" has remained in limbo while the network decides whether its ratings -- some of them following "Battlestar Galactica" on Sunday nights -- are enough to justify a second season. As late as last month, however, Wolfe said he remained optimistic in either a SciFi Channel renewal, or some sort of life for the series after cancellation.
"Right now I'm very much hoping SciFi renews the show," Wolfe said. "If they chose not to, I suspect Lionsgate [the show's production company] would at least look into other options, but that's really their thing, not mine. Bottom line for me is that I love the show, and I think SciFi is a great home." "The Dresden Files" premiered last January on the network and stars Paul Blackthorne, Valerie Cruz and Terrence Mann. The series premiere earned a 1.37 household rating, according to Nielsen Media Research, giving it 1.73 million viewers, considered by many analysts a "weak debut" for a new series. At the time, however, it was doing just a bit less than "Battlestar Galactica," which had 1.8 million viewers the same time and a 1.39 household rating.

You know, I wonder how well these shows would do if they were on any other channel besides SciFi? I think alot of people don't believe SciFi could put out a good show and they associate the geeks and nerds with the channel. 'Lost' would probably have a very similar rating if it were aired on SciFi.

I'd be disappointed...and pretty pissed if Painkiller Jane gets renewed and this one doesn't.

Cancelled.

Door Closed On 'Dresden Files'

By MICHAEL HINMAN
Source: TV Guide
Aug-03-2007

Following weeks of speculation, including a possibility that production could move to Edmonton, Alberta, SciFi Channel has officially pulled the plug on "The Dresden Files," ending the show after just a single season.TV Guide's Matt Roush broke the news to fans saying that the show just didn't make a big enough profit for the network to continue production.
SciFi Channel had avoided the topic of "Dresden" for some time, and would practically outright ignore anything asked about it. Robert Hewitt Wolfe -- the showrunner best known for his work on "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" and "Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda" -- warned fans several weeks ago that the show was in danger of cancellation, but hoped still hinge on the fact that a final decision had yet to be made.
Don't worry about Paul Blackthorne, however, who played Harry Dresden in the series. He has joined the new ABC show "Big Shots" in a recurring role this fall, joining Dylan McDermott, Michael Vartan, Christopher Titus and Joshua Malina.
"The Dresden Files" premiered last January on the network and starred Blackthorne, Valerie Cruz and Terrence Mann.
