October 15, 2004

Warner Bros. Pictures has cast Burt Reynolds and Willie Nelson in the big screen adaptation of the hit TV series The Dukes of Hazzard. Variety says Reynolds will play corrupt politician Boss Hogg and Nelson will star as Uncle Jesse.

Seann William Scott and Johnny Knoxville are playing Bo and Luke Duke, while Jessica Simpson is taking on the role of Daisy Duke.

The trade says the adaptation, directed by Jay Chandrasekhar ("Broken Lizards") will be set in the present day but the General Lee, the duo's 1969 Dodge Charger, is expected to be the same iconic orange car seen in the series.

Dukes of Hazzard Starts Principal Photography
Source: Warner Bros. Pictures
November 17, 2004

Warner Bros. Pictures' action-comedy The Dukes of Hazzard, starring Johnny Knoxville, Seann William Scott and Jessica Simpson, commenced principal photography on location in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on November 15th, it was announced today by Jeff Robinov, President of Production, Warner Bros. Pictures. The film also stars Burt Reynolds, with Lynda Carter and Willie Nelson.

A Warner Bros. Pictures presentation in association with Village Roadshow Pictures, The Dukes of Hazzard is directed by Jay Chandrasekhar (Club Dread, Super Troopers) and produced by Bill Gerber. Bruce Berman, Robert Kirby and Eric McLeod serve as executive producers. Larry Sher is the director of photography, Gary Steele is the production designer and Lee Haxall is the editor.

Based on the hit television series that ran from 1979-85, The Dukes of Hazzard is written by Jonathan Davis, with revisions by John O'Brien and Broken Lizard. Set in present day, the story follows the adventures of "good old boy" cousins, Bo (Seann William Scott) and Luke (Johnny Knoxville) Duke, who with the help of their eye-catching cousin Daisy (Jessica Simpson) and moonshine running Uncle Jesse (Willie Nelson), try and save the family farm from being destroyed by Hazzard County's corrupt commissioner Boss Hogg (Burt Reynolds). Their efforts constantly find the "Duke Boys" eluding authorities in "The General Lee," their famed 1969 orange Dodge Charger that keeps them one step ahead of the dimwitted antics of the small southern town's Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane (M.C. Gainey).

The Dukes of Hazzard will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company, and in select territories by Village Roadshow Pictures. The film is scheduled for domestic release by Warner Bros. Pictures in Summer 2005.

God, I'd forgotten just how cool the General Lee was/is.

That car was kick arse. They had so many extra of those things because they kept breaking during the jump.

I wonder if they are going to keep the original theme song or get a new one. I hope that they keep it...

Just the good ol boys. Never meaning no harm.

I hope roger Clyne and the Peacemakers' agent is on the phone with the studio, because they play a fantastic rendition of the Duke Boys' theme song.

I just watched this. I was huge fan of the series. I never missed an episode, every Friday night at 8:00 right after The Incredible Hulk. I liked the General Lee scenes and the Duke boys were pretty funny, but the other actors and the overall plot really sucked.
