I don't think there is a more captivating subject for myself personally than a well done WWII movie. There are more movies that I enjoy than any other subject matter. That goes for older WWII movies like Twelve O'clock High and the Harp of Burma, Bridge Over the River Kwai, Patton and newer ones like Saving Private Ryan, Das Boot, Flags of our Fathers

What is disturbing is that there are fewer and fewer directors that will attempt this genre and do it well. For my money nobody has the respect for the subject right now (or ever) more than Speilberg and I can't see him doing any more (even though a Pacific theater movie would be AWESOME!!)

I really hope that some younger, talented Directors take the chance of doing some of these movies. Leave the crap like Pearl Harbor type movies alone and let's go for quality.

I also want to add that Band of Brothers was incredible and I wish they would make another following another squad

I'm going to be the only one to admit this, but I actually enjoyed the Pearl Harbor movie.

And I 100% agree with you on Band of Brothers. I watched the entire series in a span of 3 days a few weeks back. Absolutely incredible series. I actually felt "empty" when I finished it. My day wasn't complete without 5+ hours of Band of Brothers.

There has been a rumor floating around for a while now that Quentin Tarantino will be doing a WW2 flick.

War movies simply cost a lot of money to make. There's no great mystery why the latest war movies were by Terrence Malick, Steven Spielberg and Clint Eastwood--directors with clout and pocketbooks.

The vintage WWII movie was definitely the high point of the genre, but we're talking about the 20 years between roughly 1944 and 1965. Nowadays, it's extremely difficult to have a monumental production like that--millions of dollars simply in equipment alone is a huge hurdle.
