As the season draws to a close, it seems like a tradition of bygone years to take a look at the upcoming draft. At least this year we didn't have to change our focus after game number 3. This draft has the potential to be a great draft for the Cards. The nice thing about this draft is that it has much of what the Cards need. Coupled with a good job of handling free agency the Cards could actually contend even if Palmer and Fitz leave. I know that's a great deal of change but they will surely retain Jones. Then by re-signing Swearinger (preferred) or Jefferson (maybe both) and securing at least a functional #2 CB, the Cards defense will keep them in virtually every game. Their offseason needs are obvious; ILB, CB, WR, a return specialist, QBOTF and the O-line. I'm going to assume they fill the O-line in free agency.
Looking at the draft when the Cards select their first pick they will likely have a choice of impact players. There are several excellent wide receivers led by Fitz clone Mike Williams and speedy John Ross. Foster might be the best ILB since Keuchly. The CB pool is the deepest I can ever recall. In fact it's so deep the Cards could wait until round 2 and still get an above average #2 corner. McMillan is a nice ILB who will likely be available in round 2. Several good receivers are likely to last until round 2. So with a good turn in free agency and this could be a tough team. As to the QBOTF, I'll start putting up some suggestions after the combine.
I agree they'll likely have a marginal starting QB, but the defense can keep them in games and they'll have a good running attack.
