Most of them are selfless members of their teams – guys who aren’t as worried about the personal accolades as they are about pushing their baseball team toward success.
Rarely do they garner headlines or grab the attention of college recruiters. But make no mistake about it. Unsung individual athletes, coaches and support personnel are vital to their teams. Just about every team has one or two or three folks who are a bit undersized or a step slow, but who set the example of a solid work ethic for their teammates.
Check out this group of the final 12 unsung heroes from schools from the Shreveport-Bossier City area turned in by their coaches. If you’re able to attend one of their games, single them out and tell them thanks for a job well done.
Why mentioned: “Peyton is a GREAT team guy. He supports every sport on campus.” – Coach Toby Todd
Why mentioned: “Kade transferred to Byrd from Captain Shreve's team following his freshman season. He has transitioned from an infielder to a relief pitcher and will see significant mound time for us this season.” – Coach Greg Williams
GIRLS UNSUNG: The good guys: 10 unsung heroes from schools like Minden, Calvary, Northwood, Shreve
ALL-CITY BASKETBALL: Solid group: Here's the 2025 Shreveport Times All-City boys high school basketball team
Why mentioned: “Reed is a high-energy guy with infectious attitude, not a high-inning player last year that is now a middle-of-the-lineup hitter and one of our top arms.” – Coach Todd Sharp
Why mentioned: “Brody is out for the year but never misses a practice or workout. He does charts for us and is one of first guys here every day.” – Coach Glenn Maynor
Why mentioned: “Aiden started at second base as an 8th grader and bats second in our lineup. Aiden is also our backup catcher and pitches when called upon. Like his brother, Hunter, Aiden is coachable and competitive.” – Coach Adam Farris
Why mentioned: “Kayl is a steady third baseman/pitcher who comes up clutch in big moments. Picking up slack for our injured pitching staff.” – Coach Bart Henry
Why mentioned: “In is third year as a starter, Ryder has always been a lockdown defender in the outfield and at first base. Now, he is a full time at first and picks off-line throws every time.” – Coach Toby Remedies
Why mentioned: “Landon missed his entire sophomore year after fracturing his skull in a car wreck. He makes the plays at first and is the first one at the field every day. Landon does whatever the coaches ask and holds his teammates to a high standard. He is a strong leader in our locker room and on the field.” – Coach Gray Haynes
Why mentioned: “Maddox does all the little things right to make him a better player – he’s willing to do whatever it takes to try and win a ball game. He is definitely the glue that holds our team together.” – Coach Aaron Wicklund
Why mentioned: “Samuel is a team captain who serves his teammates on and off the field as good as any teammate I have ever seen. He has the potential to come in out of the bullpen and break the appearance record this season.” – Coach Bryan Beck
Why mentioned: “Dalton is my safety blanket. If I need to bring somebody off the bench to run, he’s ready – need someone go play any position on the field, he’s ready.” – Coach Dayton Craig
Why mentioned: “Quinn is a kid who shows up every day ready to go and doesn't question the process. Also, he’s LHSAA Academic All-State.” – Coach Tyler Holman
