The Goods: Live Hard * Sell Hard

Release Date: August 14, 2009
Studio: Paramount Vantage
Director: Neal Brennan
Screenwriter: Adam Stock, Rick Stempson
Genre: Comedy
MPAA Rating: R (for sexual content, nudity, pervasive language and some drug material)
Website: LiveHardSellHard.com

Starring: Jeremy Piven, Ving Rhames, James Brolin, David Koechner, Kathryn Hahn, Jordana Spiro

Plot Summary: Who is Don Ready? Salesman? Lover? Song Stylist? Semi-professional dolphin trainer? Ready is all of the above, except for a dolphin trainer. When he's asked to help save an ailing local car dealership from bankruptcy, Ready and his ragtag crew descend on the town of Temecula like a pack of coyotes on a basket full of burgers. Selling, drinking, selling and going to strip clubs is their stock and trade. And they do it well. What Don doesn't expect is to fall in love and find his soul (cue heartfelt piano). "The Goods: Live Hard * Sell Hard" stars Emmy award-winning actor Jeremy Piven ("The Kingdom," "Entourage") and Ving Rhames ("I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry," "Mission: Impossible III"). The film is the first production from Will Ferrell and Adam McKay's Gary Sanchez Productions, directed by Neal Brennan, creator of the hugely successful Comedy Central hit, "Chappelle's Show."

I had very low expectations coming in, but I gotta say this movie was FREAKING FUNNY! Definitely a fun movie with a ton of quotables. I will definitely rent this again when it comes out on DVD.

I didn't find it really funny at all

amusing at times

like many other movies trying to throw out a couple memorable quotables instead of an actually funny movie

the theater was very quiet during this one - only a couple scenes had people laughing

it was more of a smirk movie with a ton of running gags, many of which got old after the 2nd appearance

i did find that some lines got stuck in my head and you had a couple of classic piven rants PCU style (some of which seemed really forced)

overall it wasn't painful ....... but it sure wasn't good

Ooooh PCU.
I haven't seen that in years. I wonder if it's still good.

I like Piven. I'll probably rent this.

I just don't get to the theater to see the movies I want to see anymore. I've seen every damned kids movie in the theater this year, but I didn't even make it out to see wolverine. :(

If your looking for a plot or an interesting background, do not go see this movie. If your looking to listening to good jokes, Its definitely worth the $7 matinee ticket. While I typically dislike most movies with Will Ferril's fingerprints on it, this had very funny quotes.

I think it's funny that on the poster in big print are the words "From the Guys Behind Talladega Nights and Step Brothers", 2 of the worst Will Ferrell movies ever made. :D

My head hurts after reading that people actually are fighting over the best Will Ferrell movies. That is like saying, "The best Cody thread is the one were he uses bad grammar and really has no point."

Just watched this last night. I thought it was pretty funny. Better than I expected it to be.
