Nice attention from a real paper. Spot on comments especially the comment on point differential.

Only because they're in a major metropolitan area with a large subscription base. That no more qualifies a paper as any more real as the next.

In addition to its longevity and circulation:

It has won more Pulitzers than any other news organization in history (117 and counting).

The news industry considers it the newspaper of record. That'd be like the NFL calling the Cardinals the "Team of Record". Unparalleled respect from peers.

nice article..but sorry....the NYT has zero journalistic credibility.
get better writing and less bias from the L.A. Times.

That's a bit harsh. There is a difference between reporting the news and editorializing. People may not agree with the editorializing, but when it comes to investigative journalism, the Times is still the gold standard.

Come on guys, the New York Times has some of the best plagiarizers in the business. ;)

Is the NYT any more real than, say, an actual sports publication like The Sporting News(God rest it) or SI? I'd take more credence with one of those calling us the best team in football than the NYT. As good as the NYT is, it isn't known for it's sports reporting. Now, the Boston Globe or Philadelphia Inquirer or even the LA Times has a far better sports section than the NYT. Also, the Jayson Blair case really soured me on the NYT. As for actually reading it, I used to read the Sunday Times even though you needed a forklift to carry it and I still do the crossword puzzles, the best in the world IMO.
