The film looks amazing.
It was great, I saw it on Friday night at the archlight in Sherman Oaks, CA. It was the only local theater showing the film. I highly reccomend the film and would not be shocked to see it nominated for best film...

I read this last summer and was suprised to find it was not light reading. I think that the sadistic nature of the boy that grew to be the chief tormentor in the end was over done and it seemed as though as usual literary license was taken in the way things got described by the author. I am sure the movie is not as heavy as the book was but I am sure it is just as predictable. The US is the bosom that all these imigrants turn to start a new life when they are not strong enough to stand up to the tyrrany in there own countries. So those that are the decendents of great men that came here many years ago and built this country now get overrun by all manner of foreign migrants looking for what we have and have built. No wonder that the books star settled in the San francisco area. THe libs welcome them all with open arms. The book was well written but the subject matter was for more liberal minds than mine with regards to immigration. There is a reason that we should count ourselves lucky to have been born Americans. The line is skewed by these supposed literary triumphs. The actors are in fear for there lives in there own country...no doubt they will be the next ones to immigrate.

Good thing the natives who were here first were strong enough to stand up to our ancestors' "tyrrany."

While I see your point, that the natives were not treated fairly, I also recognize that a tribal culture does not promote cohesive government. I also subscribe to Darwins theory. There was tyrrany to be sure, on both sides. This story was also about a tribal battle and the weak look for an open minded government to go and settle into all the while still promoting there culture. It is epidemic....look around.

:lame: so come to the US and forget your culture? Please discribe the "US culture" Our culture is a conglomeration of a vast array of cultures with a heavy dose of European influence yet its sprinkled and augmented by all the other cultures that have come to this country.

There is no "US culture" this country borrows what it likes from the wide array of cultures residing here and tosses what it doesnt.

Our culture is one of winning, we do not take our ball and go home or run to another soverign nation and seek asylum from the big bad boogie man terrorizing our country. I liked the line in the Good Shepard where the mafioso is telling that the Italians have what they have the Jews what they have and even the blacks have what they have but what do the US government have....he said WE are the United States of America....the rest of you are just visiting. I believe alot have over stayed there welcome and will continue to do so as long as the liberals keep welcoming them with open arms. Stories like this will get awards and headlines and we will get another 50k refugees from Iraq, Afghanistan, or some other needy country with no infastructure. This might seem lame to you but it is a nationwide problem that threatens the American way of life.

What a crock... I'm sure you would've stayed in Afghanistan when the Soviets invaded and tried to kill your whole family. I guess we should just dismantle to Statue of Liberty or black out the whole bring me your weak... inscription. Chances are your ansestors came to this country to get way from their "big bad boogey man."

We should accept refugees from Iraq, it was us who destroyed their country's infrastructure.

I find your whole outlook to be disgusting and grossly ridiculous.

Once again the big bad liberals are all the source of ills in society. What a joke... Its funny, cause you attitude is about as anti-American values as there is...

In what way is my outlook disgusting and ridiculous? Within a year and a half our country will be in a deep recession if not a depression and we have over 500k immigrants here in Phoenix that completly obliterate basic services and cost Billions to the local tax base. The crime wave from this will be significant and there is no answer for it except to hope they all go back to there own country which doesn't want them back. California is already declaring a Budget emergency with a 14 billion dollar shorfall...this is in large part because of the 5 million illegal immigrants in your state taxing the resources. Get your head out of the clouds. More to the point the legal immigrants from the middle east that promote there secular cultures here are not part of any solution for America...there is already legislation to the affect that we have to stop the immigration highway that has now reached a tipping point in America that will cripple our nation. While in a bygone era there was a need for the immigrants to populate the country and fight civil wars...that era is gone and something has to be done to reign in the issue of immigration.

No, what I am saying is that they are not part of any solution...and there presence only makes it more difficult to fix our problems. All you want to do is insult rather than have a discussion...so I am done with this topic here. It probably needed to go in politics anyway.

True...

I am not insulting you, but your view point. I find it to be insulting to a whole swath of immigrants...

Well all political bickering aside, I thought this was a good movie that tugged on the heart strings and was worth seeing.

It's definately not for watching with friends in a light-hearted enviroment.

Recently watched it. I thought the first half of this movie was pretty good, while the 2nd half was amazing. It's terribly sad what happened to the actors. I read that one of them moved back to Kabul, but he stays indoors and is home-schooled.

I had never heard of kite running. Sounds fun to do on a beach, but I wouldn't want to do it in the city like these folks.

The female lead of this film had competition for the role from one other person--the lead from my film I made back in 2006. She actually had the role, but Marc Forster knew the person who got the part, so that's how she got it. Not a huge role, but for a struggling actor, pretty big.
