Arnold And ‘Conan The Barbarian’ Reunited: Universal Reboots Action Franchise With Schwarzenegger

http://www.deadline.com/2012/10/arn...reboots-action-franchise-with-schwarzenegger/

Universal Pictures has made a deal for The Legend Of Conan, an action film that will star Arnold Schwarzenegger in one of his signature roles as Robert E. Howard’s mythic barbarian. The deal brings Conan and Schwarzenegger back to Universal, which released the first film that launched Schwarzenegger’s movie career back in 1982. Universal has world rights on the film.

The film will be produced by Fredrik Malmberg and Chris Morgan. Malmberg is CEO of Paradox Entertainment, which holds the rights to Conan. Morgan is the Universal-based writer and producer whose credits include the last four Fast And The Furious films, along with Wanted and 47 Ronin. Morgan has hatched the story and might write the script. The caveat is that the studio wants The Legend Of Conan for summer 2014, and Morgan might not be finished writing the seventh Fast And Furious installment by then. If that happens he will be a very active producer, because this is Morgan’s dream project.

Word is that they are going to ignore Conan the Destroyer and the new rebooted Conan and consider this a sequel to Conan the Barbarian, where he ended up being the king.

And the idiocy surrounding the stories this franchise puts out continues. They have an EFFING WEALTH of some of the greatest fantasy stories of all time to draw from, and they keep making crap up. Yes, Conan was a king, several times--but he was NEVER OLD in the stories!!! Cripes, what a bunch of EFFING MORONS!!! This idea is quite possibly more stupid than a sequel to Blade Runner. Oh wait...

Nope, try again. Garbage.

Indeed. They should take the opportunity to make another Transformer movie instead.

So, Arnie with his shirt off no longer does it for you? I thought he looked pretty good for his age.

Steve

I'd pay real money to look that good at 65. However, it would make for a less than stellar Conan-esque physique.

I imagine the dude still looks phenomenal unless hes gotten very lazy but when you get paid millions to look buff in a movie you make it happen.

They should make another Transformers before we get to see a Conan who has had too much plastic surgery.

You crazy? At least there's a slight chance a new Conan will be a good movie. Whereas we all know another Transformers will suck.

Come on chap... I think we both know NEITHER of those movies have any chance to be good!

Yeah, my comment was more tongue-in-cheek. Although I think there is a better possibility of me being more entertained at Conan with Arnold than Transformers with Shia. But that's just me. :D

This is really more sad. I am not convinced that a 65 year old Conan is going to be even remotely convincing as a bad ass. Times have changed and so have audiences. I predict a flop.

I don't know, I thought Schwarzenegger was one of the best things about Expendables 2, although most of that was probably his one-liners which Conan WON'T do. That would be weird.

Sure, I watch everything! I'm not one of those that only watches indie films because I'm so high and mighty.

I'm high and mighty, of course, but it doesn't stop me from watching The Expendables. ;)
