This looks pretty F'n great, IMO.

saw it yesterday. acting performances are pretty damn incredible. kinda think i have to see it again before i decide just how much i liked it. it's definitely Anderson's coldest film. As beautiful as the images were and as high as the performances soared, I just wasn't roped in from the start through the finish like I was Blood, Boogie Nights and especially Magnolia.

oh yeah. but it's not so much an expose on Scientology as it really is just a character study between the two leads.

Totally agree with this, Hoffman and Phoenix were outstanding. That said, I also think you're right about seeing it again. There are just so many things to see and think about it again, I'm still processing 3 days later.

All in all, I doubt it will be one of my favorites, because it isn't particularly happy, and doesn't make you really feel good about people and their motivations.

More than anything, I just enjoy movies that aren't just action and plot ultimately leading to a good guy defeating an evil power. Movies that make you think are in short supply these days, and that is definitely a bad thing.
