Someone refresh my memory... is it a good idea or a bad idea to toss out fat multiyear contracts to 30+ year old guys who have been wildly inconsistent (and never great) in their careers?

Hmm, how old is Aaron Hill? Good question.

Such weird behavior for a team who claims to be a small market.

I could have told you this

He was a great value guy .... inconsistent but for the most part a solid contributor who would occasionally go on a hot streak and carry you a bit and you hoped that his cold streaks would be covered by the other guys on the team that you would expect more consistent production from

Put him as a relatively large contract guy that you are depending on and he shifts to a disappointment ...... same guy for the most part

He's one of those type of players you don't overpay for - maybe trade for with little cost at the deadline if you need a 1/2 year guy - but for the most part you hope you have someone in your system that can provide something close for a lot less

The problem with this thread is we already knew this before opening the vault for this guy.

Yep... we are not the Dodgers, which makes it all the more painful to have made so many big buck blunders.

24 mil for a 4th outfielder...

14 mil on another 4th outfielder who cant stay healthy.

45 mil on two sub par sinker-ball pitchers from Oakland

15 mil a year for the Heath Bell experience.

And 40 million for a glorified utility player.

Towers toilet it probably getting clogged with all the money he is flushing.
