I know this is an old movie but it was on TV today so I watched it again. I need for someone to explain what the husband is doing coming back to the house. He seems confused for most of his stay and then he leaves. Anyone got some reason he came back to the house or why he was in such a daze or why he left?

Come on, help me out people.

I don't remember the absolutes--but here's what I think (I haven't seen the movie in a long time, so I may be completely wrong):

The husband comes home to an empty house because his family is dead. That's enough to put anyone in a daze I would guess.

I remember while watching the movie that I thought the husband was dead himself, which is why he acted so peculiar.
