I saw some of this a couple of weekends ago and decided to google. The guy has a website where he sells DVD's about his system. He claims it's all based on female psychology although apparently he has no actual training in psychology.

I read on the web that several of the women on the show are in fact paid actresses not just random girls at the club or friends of his. And I read a blurb where some girl claimed there were visible cameras at times following the "students" and that's why in many cases they're able to go up and get girls, because they see the cameras. She implied the whole show was fake, the show I saw they very clearly said all cameras were hidden and there were no visible cameras, so who knows what the truth is.

I thought it was pretty funny to watch.

no way! a reality TV show that isn't... real?!

Folks, I worked production on the first season of Fear Factor. Reality TV... that's a good one (although, yes, the stuff they ate - WHOLLY CRAP was that stuff gross, but yeah, "total reality"... not so much).

Who needs lessons on how to pick up drunk girls at a bar? I have seen two episodes, and I must say, if getting a girls number at a bar, or getting a kiss from a drunk chic defines a 'pick-up-artist... then I am 'Mystery'. Next week, though, they have to try and pick up a 'hot' chic walking across a bridge during the day. She'll most likely be sober, and if she is hot, she is most likely jogging... that will be a tough challenge.

BTW, I did read an article on this "Mystery" guy... a witness who wrote a book about the system recounted a story of how "Mystery" got the phone number from a girl that was with Scott Baio... right in front of him! Just to prove he could. He didn't have intentions of actually calling her... that is funny.

But, let's all be honest, drunk chics are not a true conquest for anyone. That's like getting a kid to like you by offering them candy. There is a reason why guys want girls to drink... it lowers their expectations and inhibitions while raising their curiosity.

From this it sounds doubtful that he's really using hired actresses and visible cameras because apparently there
is an entire "community" of people who do what he does so if he was faking it, he'd be outed by them I assume?

Some guys need to try and pick up drunk girls, thats the whole point! These aren't like studly guys that can actually just go pick up girls. The point of the show has actual value as its teaching these guys some social skills they obviously lacked in order to help them meet people. They are gonna have to pick up strippers to now that will be a funny challenge to watch haha!

I half agree. The show I saw the guy kept saying I hope you realize this isn't just about meeting women it's about changing your life. That sounds great, but after looking at the wikipedia site I really question that.

He basically teaches them to memorize "openings", that are completely made up, memorize stories about themselves, usually made up and then a few other things which are positive such as listen to what she says, engage her in the conversation etc.

If all you want to do is get lucky yeah that's great, but when you're selling this as it's going to change your life even at work, I really have to disagree. Using fake information to impress people might work in a bar, but it's not the same in the real world. In that sense he's really talking about being a con artist, not a pickup artist.

But then when you are charging for DVD's and books on the subject I guess you have to sell it somehow.

The guy does seem like an interesting guy, the 2 episodes I saw you could see he's a very engaging speaker.

I agree with that he shouldn't be telling them to lie. However, he is helping them a lot with their confidence. The lying, hopefully is just to give them something to say until they are comfortable enough around the girls to come up with their own interesting conversation.

I absolutely hate the line about flossing before or after brushing that many of them use.

For those who haven't watched much. He has helped them out a lot. If you didn't see what they were like when they first got there, they were extremely anti-social. They had zero confidence and were afraid to talk to girls. Most of them only socialized while playing Warcraft.

I have watched I think almost all of these guys have been extremely helped out by the experience. They were total dorks who had NO social skills. While they are using lines he is still instilling the confidence in these guys to go up to these women and use them. Even the first guy eliminated I believe benefitted from the show as he learned and approached women (total strangers) which is very difficult for lots of people. Most of these guys social lives consisted of computer chat and games, stuff like that. Its absolutely huge to these guys to be building the confidence to just go up to groups of women and not be afraid to talk, even if its BS at this moment in time. They will all leave the show having life changing experiences!!!

The Spoon guy was one I saw. His comment was pretty telling about what you and Folster mean. he said I never failed before because I never tried, this gave me the confidence to try, and that is pretty important.

The new season just started. It is being filmed in Arizona, does anyone know what club they are at?
