4-6-STL 10 (3:00) (Shotgun) 14-R.Lindley pass short right intended for 11-L.Fitzgerald INTERCEPTED by 55-J.Laurinaitis at SL 8. 55-J.Laurinaitis to SL 26 for 18 yards (14-R.Lindley).

I thought this was a dubious playcall, 4th and 6 from the 10 with 3 minutes left and we call a 1 yard bubble screen to Fitz.

What say you?

Bad playcall but we've done it for 2 years now. they're determined to get Fitz TD's. They probably assumed the Rams would concede the pass and Fitz might somehow break a tackle and score. We're trying to get him stats even in losses it's really obvious.

Instead he bobbles the throw and it's another pick, those ones drive me nuts just throw the ball past the first down marker.

its a pretty common approach from Whis throughout his history: throw short of the sticks on really important 3rd and 4th downs-

think back to 2008 -- the Hightower screen for a TD in the NFC champ game. They also did it often during the regular season ( I recall the key TD in Seattle to JJ Arrington on a similar play)

this year on third down I remember one each to Doucet, Fitz and Roberts on third and goal where it was thrown short of the end zone.

Lots of offenses in the NFL do it. Even the Patriots and they are pushing 600 points this year.

Not only was it an awful play call but it was just an awful design as well. The RT did not go low on one of the best edge rushers in the league to get his hands down and just let him run free towards Lindley and right into the passing lane. Long tipped the ball which is what caused the bobble by Fitz and the ultimately the INT.

Piss poor call, design and execution. In other other word typical Cardinals offense.

That used to be a good play call, especially inside the opponent's 5-yard line. You've got Fitz split right with Breaston in the slot and Q split wide left and isolated one-on-one with the defender. Kurt Warner takes the snap under center, rises up, fires the ball to Q who bulls his way into the endzone. Touchdown Arizona!

Now, with most defenses keyed on Larry, it is a dubious call on fourth and short.

The Pats usually call that play to Welker, who's great at getting YAC. Fitz is more of a possession receiver.

Such a good point. It's definitely a Whisenhunt trend, but a lot of teams do it. Oddly, it also failed against the Warner-led Rams in the Superbowl when the Titans tried it on the last play of the game.
