Jermaine Haley from the Dolphins. He' started a few games and played well. His compensation is only a 7th rounder. The trick is to mak a contract that wouldn't be matched by Miami (Who is short on cap space). He is a little old for a RFA, but would start nicely next to Bryant.

Packer LB Nail Diggs for a 4th rounder. He's was their best linebacker last year (It was their weakest group, though). I not sure that we need another young promising linebacker, but IMO he represents the value of any restricted FA.

I think our "other guys" aren't much to rely on. Tired of waiting on Bell. Tanner and Davis aren't the answer. Teams ran on us better than they threw on us IMO.

Nope, that's not true.

Teams passed on us much better than they ran. We gave up 134.1 rushing vs. 242.1 passing, over 100 more yards per game.

Both of those totals would be much lower with better end play against the run and the pass.

I know that, but we still were worse comparably defending the pass. That's why our biggest need on the team is a pass rusher.

I'm looking for the per attempt...

Interesting...

Passing
Only Cincy gave up more YP completion.
4th highest yds per attempt allowed
Fewest sacks
4th highest rating allowed
6th highest total yds
but 20th most attempts against.

They didn't throw much, but when they did they had all day and kept drives alive.

Rushing

9th ypc against (4.4 yds)
only New England and Seattle gave up more YPG
but 5th most in attempts against.

Give a bad offense fewer attempts to win by keeping a bad defense on the field with running plays. When you need, convert third dons by sitting in the pocket all day and complete long plays . We are bad in both, but I believe inthe old addage of stopping the run first.

I agree, but if you can stop them on third downs more, invariably both stats will improve.

oof.... got me there!!!! I just REALLY think we need to improve both. I would be EXCITED to get one of the two DT since I doubt Suggs will be there at #6.

I really think our best bet (other than trading down....I won't even mention that due to the wrath of Nidan :D) might be to draft Dewayne Robertson.

At 6'2, 320, and around 4.7 speed, our tackle rotation would look pretty good.

DT- Wendall Bryant, Russell Davis, Marcus Bell
DT- Dewayne Robertson, Barron Tanner, Marcus Bell

With our 2nd rounder I would take either Antwuan Peek or Dewayne White (two dewaynes in one draft :D) to give us a pass rush specialists and a possible guy to develop.

LDE- KVB, Fred Wakefield
RDE- Dennis Johnson, Antwuan Peek/DW, Alton Moore.

I still hope that we can trade up and get Suggs...but that isn't going to happen. If I were GM it would, you could bank on that!

I would trade up for suggs also..assuming suggs is gone - robertson would be my next choice. I do not want a receiver or a qb with the #6 pick. too many question marks with the qbs and receivers that will be there at #6. I would still bring a retread defensive end like willie whitehead. he would not cost much - and I would rotate a guy like whitehead over wakefield.. But I want DE and DT in rounds one and two (in either order). Part of my 2 main themes: turnovers win or lose games..and DT or DE can impact every play while a rookie receiver needs alot of training and will probably only catch like 5 balls a game. we cannot get turnovers without a pass rush and a solid d-line. On offense, our turnovers should decrease in theory because we switched out jake for blake.

I think, we have to address receiver on day one.

I might go DT/DE round 1, DE/DT round 2, Wr round 3.

1. Dewayne Robertson
2. Antwuan Peek
3. Tyrone Talicco

Not a bad a first day.

4. Shane Walton, CB Notre Dame, or a center
5. DT Langston Moore, University of South Carolina
6. Random pass rusher (Shuron Pierson or Elton Patterson)
7. Soloman Bates, LB Arizona State.
