‘Rocky Horror’ TV Remake In Works At Fox With Gail Berman & Kenny Ortega

http://deadline.com/2015/04/rocky-h...make-fox-gail-berman-kenny-ortega-1201407925/

As we mark the 40th anniversary of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Fox is prepping a remake of the cult classic. The two-hour event special, which is in development with a cast-contingent order, is executive produced by Gail Berman of The Jackal Group; the 1975 movie’s producer Lou Adler; and Kenny Ortega, who is set to direct and choreograph. Fox 21 TV Studios is producing.

Tentatively titled The Rocky Horror Picture Show Event, the project is described as a reimagining of the campy horror feature, which, 40 years after its release continues, to play in theaters around the world – the longest theatrical distribution frame for any film in history.

The TV adaptation has done quite the Time Warp. It was originally set up at Fox in 2002 when Berman was the network’s entertainment president. Fox TV Studios, led by David Madden, was behind the special, which was aimed at a 2013 premiere to mark the 30th anniversary of the 1973 musical by Richard O’Brien that was the basis for the movie. The Rocky Horror Picture Show Event is now back at Fox, again shepherded by Berman and Madden, who have switched seats at the table: Madden is the network’s entertainment president and Berman is the producer.

Event?

Is this going to be a Live Event? The trailer makes it seem like it is filmed. But maybe the word "Event" means it'll be live?

They did a terrific job on Grease Live, so if it is, I give Fox the benefit of the doubt that they can pull this off too. I know NBC would never touch it for their live show, and I have always wanted to see this redone in a live format.

Then hopefully Fox will start tackling other live properties, that are less family-friendly. Like, maybe, Cabaret?

It was tentatively titled The Rocky Horror Picture Show Event when the news was first released. Looks like it is officially a TV Movie now.

Fox network fans must simply have their heads spinning right now. On one hand the network produces their favorite propaganda news shows that cater to the Conservative Right. On the other hand is a network with a hit show about Lucifer and now another show featuring a transgender.

I will give it a shot because of the original movie. I really like the show Lucifer as well. I am just always leery about anything on FOX lasting a long time let alone given a chance to grow an audience.

Is everything
Not to be nerdy but.......... I hope it will be a remake of the original full length international version that includes all of final track "Superheroes". That's such a great song, it was quite a shame it got excluded from the US theatrical release. From what I understand, at the time, studio executives thought the Superheroes segment was "too dark of an ending" for US audiences, so they edited most of it out and cut straight to the spinning globe scene. That seems like a silly decision since the whole movie is dark!

Here is the scene:

Fox News and Fox Network famously disavow each other all the time. Fox News blasted the Network for the OJ: If I Did It Special. The Nextwork darling (Simpsons) lampoons Fox News regularly. They really do have a strong firewall between the two, except for when Fox News ships Shepard Smith over to the Network to cover election nights.
