Another theory seeing as we're on the subject.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the suns get beat fairly often in the first month or so as a result of them thinking they're better than they are. I've seen it before - teams get a kind of arrogance once they start to believe their own hype.

It's possible - we got a guy who's signed the equivalent of the biggest contract in the league, Marion who has been shy in the past now being an all star and bulking up (this does wonders for the ego) and a reigning rookie of the year.

The suns are candidates for the big head syndrome this year IMO.

just out of curiosity.how is marbury's contract the "equivelant" of the biggest contract in the league?

We do not even know if he got the max allowed (which still is far from teh biggest in the league)

well near enough anyway.

just out of interest, whose contract is bigger? Shaq is one i guess, but his was done before the CBA (i think) so that's not truly comparable. Garnett ditto.

It is comparable because it is the biggest :D

Garnett just signed his HUGE extension, about 100 million more than marbury over 5 years.

You are right though, he is one of the highest plaid players in the league. Comparable salaries are

Duncan
AI
Kidd
Ray Allen
Alan Houston
Penny
Deke
R. Wallace
C. Webb
D. Stoudamire
Vin Baker
A. Walker
Z. Illguaskas
M. Finley
K. Van Horn

List goes on for a while. There are probably enogh max contracts for each team to have at least 1. And Marbury is already widely considered #2 at his position, I have no problem with him being our max player for the future.

I do agree though that the team may get themselves hyped up, but then again, can you name a year where we didnt play to the level of our opponents??

That is incorrect. Garnett's extension is for $100 million total over five years. In terms of average salary per year, it is only slightly bigger than Marbury's extension.

Thats my bad, when the reports first came out I could have sworn he got a 176 not a 100 million extension. (I think he was allowed to get around 200 million)

Man I need to wear my contacts more often
