What if the Suns could sign an under 30 year old veteran big man for the minimum who can clog the lane, rebound, and knows the Suns systems?

That could happen if the Bobcats were to waive Jahidi White. The Suns can't trade for him (nor would they want to with his contract), but they could sign him for the veteran minimum if he got cut.

The Bobcats can wait until right before the season starts to cut White and not have him count on their salary cap. Right now they don't need the cap space, but if teams like the Clippers are willing to give them players virtually for free, they might like to get rid of the guy that is 1/3 of all their current salaries.

Would White return for the veteran minimum? There will be teams able to offer more, but probably won't offer much more. If it is close enough to the start of the season, they will probably have their rosters set.

Would White resent the Suns? Maybe, but then again he gets an extra million or so out of this deal since the Bobcats have to pay him his $5.9 million. Considering how thin the Suns are, he would have a good chance of getting more minutes this season and be in a position to get a better contract next year than he might with most teams.

Long shot? Absolutely. Unless there is a "secret plan"...

I dont think the suns can resign him if he was taken from them. Does anyone else know more about this?

They can't trade for him. Once he's cut, he's a complete free agent.

I think they are keeping White from every indication out of the Bobcats. They are more apt to trade White than to cut him because of his favorable cap situation, a team may take him on to clear cap the next seaon.

I keep thinking it's a Duffy client, otherwise, why involve him in the overall plan when agents are notorious for getting deals killed. If it's not a Duffy client coming here, then one of his clients is leaving here in a trade. Look at the guys on the Suns that Duffy represents now.

I have a feeling some other team would pick up White off of waivers if he was cut. If he somehow made it past waivers, He would be a FA and we could sign him.

If a team picked him off of waivers, they would be responsible for paying his 6 million salary. Not to mention that team would have to be under the cap to claim him.

If Jahadi gets waived, no one picks it up.

Hmm I was under the impression that any team could pick him up off waivers regardless of whether or not they were under the cap. In that case I agree with you.

If a player is picked off waivers, the team that signs is responsible. If not, the team that cut the player is responsible for the contract. Look at New Jersey, they still have Mutombo on their payroll. Or look at Anthony Mason who is still on the Bucks payroll.

The difference with the Bobcats is that while responsible for paying the contract, they would would not have the amount count against their cap like it does with ordinary teams.

Unless my memory fails me, the only restriction on the expansion draft was if a player was to be traded back to the original team. This is not a trade.

I don't think that it is a Duffy client, remember when they made the presentation to Nash about their plans, Duffy was on hand. He became privy to information that he probably should not be divulging.

I think that Jahidi becomes more valuable to East Coast teams now that Shaq is in Miami.

Of course it really doesn't matter whether Phoenix would appeal to get him or not. The Charlotte ARE planning on keeping Jahidi White. They talked about it a lot during the expansion draft.
