WOW!

Wanna talk about a remake done right? This ones it!

This movie was completely well done. It was disturbing to say the least knowing that this is a true story and that people like that actually exist in the world.

The sheer terror that the 5 kids went through on that august day back in 1973 really is unbelievable. I actually thought to myself in the theatre wondering what the living relatives of the victims in this case thought or think about the movie.

***SPOILERS***

It is obvious that these 5 kids weren't the first victims of that family. Especially with the extreme amount of body parts that were found down in the basement. Im curious as to how many people fell victim to them. I wonder if there isa book on the history of the incident and the family?

The use of the chainsaw, the meat hooks for the bodies, and the way he would make masks from the skin of the bodies really is one of the most disturbing things I have ever seen!

Have you seen the original?

What made the original scary was the fact that they didn't really show any of the gore that this one goes overboard on. In today's society, that might translate to more $$$, but it doesn't make a good movie most of the time.

I have seen it Chap but it has been many many years. I dont remember it to well. But believe me Michael Bay made this movie pretty damn terrorizing especially considering you knew what was coming.

This really was a good movie!

The original is the most distrubing mainstream American Horror Movie ever made - the dinner scene still gives me shivers - even on a Wednesday morning at ten o'clock.

Shane, this movie isn't actually based on real events from what I've heard.

It's actually mostly based on the serial killer Ed Gein. Ed Gein was the inspiration for a bunch of films, including Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Silence of the Lambs (Buffalo Bill), and Psycho.

I have seen the movie Ed Gein. Another disturbing movie to say the least. This movie was not based on Ed Gein. No similarities whatsoever other than the two of the killers wearing skin on there bodies.

That is incorrect. The filmmakers of this and the previous movie have even reiterated that it is more or less based on Ed Gein.

Thats interesting to say the least. Especially considering that if you read the true story of the TCM then the events in the movie are very close to the real account.

Also have you ever seen the movie Ed Gein? The two stories are in no way similar. Other than the use of there victims skin. But then again who knows how much the movie makers of that film changed the story. Ed Gein is one one of the least known and most notorious serial killers in history though.

I guess a good question might be how accurate the movie Ed Gein was in the first place. Most movies are changed anyway, there are very few 100% accurate true story movies.

Another product of an unimaginative Hollywood machine.

This movie, and the original, is INSPIRED by the serial killer Ed Gein (much like the movies Psycho, Deranged, and Silence of the Lambs). There was never a real tragedy like what happened in the movie. Tobe Hooper (the director of the original) has admitted that he put that up front after watching the success of The Legend of Boggy Creek - a mockumentary a la The Blair Witch Project that was released in the 70's.

There's an excellent article about how the original movie came about here:

http://www.joebobbriggs.com/misccolumns/tcmcomprehensive.html#contiuned

!!!SPOILERS!!!

Anyway, I thought this movie was a decent sequel but that was about it. Where the hell did the hitchiker have that gun the whole time? And if she had it, why the hell didn't she use it on Leatherface?

Leatherface himself was pretty cool in a different way from the original but nowhere near as complex and interesting. This one was just a relentless killing machine. Giving him a skin disease was a copout on the filmmakers' parts, I feel.

Somebody needs to teach modern filmmakers that if a person loses a limb, they will bleed to death within a few minutes. They will not live for hours and be able to have coherent conversations towards the end.

There were bright spots. Jessica Biel is one of the most naturally beautiful women I've ever seen. The chase sequence through the sheets was pretty intense. R. Lee Ermey continues to play the same role in everything he does but each time he was on screen he had my full attention.

I guess what it boils down to is that it bears the title of one of the greatest, most terrifying movies ever made. While the first one was so great because you never knew what was going to happen next, this one is an exercise in telegraphed jump scares and slasher-film sensibilities. Had it been a different title I would have said that this was a fairly decent horror film but because it wants to be compared to the original I found myself continually comparing it - and hands down, the original is still the sharper saw. Though I would say that this is much better than Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation starring Matthew McConaughey and Renee Zellwegger.

There are a few widely recognized classics in each genre of film. The original TCM is one of them. I dont get it. I watched it when I was a young teen, one who couldnt sleep after seeing Nightmare on Elm Street in the theater, and I wasn't scared at all by this film. Im not condemning it or anything, its too widely accepted as a horror masterpiece for me to argue it, but I wonder why didnt go ape over it.

Same goes for..... (ready the cries of HERETIC HERETIC!) Princess Bride and Young Frnkenstein....

I know I know.

Too much screaming in the first one. The second film is a classic. Good acting, and who can forget the "lick my plate, dogdick!" line?
I haven't seen the remake, and although I found the first film disturbing, I feel that the sequel puts it to shame.

I gotta agree with Chaplin, the original is way more disturbing than the remake. I thought the gore parts were too Nightmare on Elm Streetish or HellRaiserish. It kinda made you feeel it was fake. However, the one character I enjoyed was the fake sheriff!! He made the movie for me!!

I'm very sorry to hear that.

The DVD comes out March 30, 2004. There'll be two versions of it (bare-bones and "Platinum" edition).

Oh yeah! :D And just think, those are only the ones I talk about on here.

To each his own. Although I insist that everybody at least watch the original before forming a judgement on this and any remake.

the remake was hollywood trash that thought extreme amounts of gore and telegraphed shocked scares make a movie scary. The original is still the most disturbing movie ever made IMO.

My first cant wait DVD release

I cant wait for Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake DVD release. Why?

#1 It is the single greatest horror film I ever went to the theatre to see. EVER.

#2 I (please dont tell my wife) have been dreaming of Jessica Biels rear end since the day we saw it. lol
