Plot Summary: From Terrence Malick, the acclaimed director of such classic films as "Badlands," "Days of Heaven" and "The Thin Red Line," "The Tree of Life" is the impressionistic story of a Midwestern family in the 1950's. The film follows the life journey of the eldest son, Jack, through the innocence of childhood to his disillusioned adult years as he tries to reconcile a complicated relationship with his father (Brad Pitt). Jack (played as an adult by Sean Penn) finds himself a lost soul in the modern world, seeking answers to the origins and meaning of life while questioning the existence of faith. Through Malick's signature imagery, we see how both brute nature and spiritual grace shape not only our lives as individuals and families, but all life.

I've been waiting for this to get to Netflix. It's available starting tomorrow, so hopefully I'll be watching it next week.

I loved this film. The creation sequence was amazing.

This is one of those films that people will either love or hate. Malick's style is very polarizing. I love it myself, but lots of people don't.

The way that Malick uses imagery to tell the story, instead of words, is really refreshing. Most movies just spell the story out for the audience, but Malick uses his cameras to ask questions of the audience, most of which have no real answers to them.

The film asks the audience to think about the themes of life, death, family in Malick's unique style. It's well worth the effort.

Well said. I think everyone will take away something different from this magnificent film. Definitely not your typical film.

Pitt never ceases to impress me with the scope of the characters he can play.
