The Cardinals have official ended their up-and-coming era and are back to being the embarrassment that they have been known for throughout recent history.

By not restructuring Fitz last year Graves has now let our most consistant defender go. Now he will get Fitz a new deal in the near future and some of you will consider that a success. Enjoy the good feeling while it lasts I tell you, because it will be short lived.

After we give Larry astronomical #s at a non-prioritized position, Dansby will ask for the world next year and be gone. Boldin will want a contract that compares with Fitz's. He may get it. An idiot like Graves would likely do something of that nature. A-dub and D Dock will do the same and we may retain 1 of them. It is likely that that would be Wilson because a moron would place a precedent on a coverage-impared S over a complete and durable D-lineman. If Dockett stays I doubt it will be long term, because that boy wants to win and it aint gonna happen here. Not with Mr. Ineptitude at the helm.

We may get back to 8-8 next year, but I doubt it with the schedule. Regardless, the team will worsen over the next few seasons due to the loss of quality players. Whiz, who has my vote as a good coach, will catch the heat and get canned. Mike B will continue this pathetic love affair with RG until we are officially at rock bottom. Hopefully he sells the team that that point. For years I hoped Bill Bidwill would just die so we could be competitive. Little did I know he had a son to continue the organization's demise.

This is a sad day for Cardinal nation.

Before some of you come on here and question my loyalty, I just want to say that I will be rooting for the team loud and proud and hope for the best. Unlike the past ten years however, I will not set myself up for failure. I am preparing now for the worst.

All of that seems small, compared to the real dilemma. How do I get thru next season without wearing the Fitz jersey my wife got me for Christmas and still not break her heart????????????

We are not even 24 hours into the free agent period and you are already writing off the next 5 football seasons ?

Why cause Calvin Pace is in Miami at a ridiculous price ?

If that is the way you look at it that is up to you. Calling your opinion "the truth" is still your opinion.

Calling Calvin Pace our most consistent defender is far from the truth. He didn't start for his first four years. He is no where near consistent. He is not even the 7th best player on defense and even that is debatable.

Furthermore, no team, and I REPEAT NO TEAM can keep every single player they draft from year to year. In the age of free agency it does not happen. That is why as an organization you must find a way to replace what you lose each year.

The Patriots team that won their first super bowl is vastly different than the one that lost to the Giants this year.

All this because Calvin Pace signed a ridiculously overpriced deal ? The guy fell out a window and was put on IR less than two years ago for pete's sake.

As for the Fitz Jersey you can sell it to me for a buck ?

I disagree cardsfanmd. I'm not questioning your loyalty, just your logic. Teams that pay for FA's hinder themselves the year or two after. It's a tough job to be a NFL GM. No matter what you do, you will be questioned. Unless you are a top playoff team like the Pats, you have a difficult job to do. If the Cards were perennial playoff contenders whom millions of people jumped on the bandwagon and bought our jerseys, this would be much easier. However, the Cards are where they are and we have to suck it up and deal with it. I truly believe we will one day reach the promise land, but until then it is what it is.

Keeping our core together was a loudly stated priority over the last few years. Unfortunately our GM isn't very pro-active about keeping his word.

I added a #6 to my signature.

Oh there is no questioning that.

He literally lives, and dies with this team. Cardinal fan through and through and I cannot wait to go to a game with him.

I mean we are seeing things differently right now but that is just football talk and good debating.

Like everyone on this board, we have different philosophies on how to get there but the goal is the same.

See the Cardinals win, and some day win a Super Bowl.

It's all good

Free agency is a time of frustration for me. So many people jump off of bridges if something that seems bad happens. Me, I'll wait. I'll wait and see who we sign in free agency, I'll wait and see who we draft, and I'll wait for the season. Let's see where a Pace-less Cardinals end up. It might not be as bad as some think.

We had a subtraction today. Let's see our additions, and see how the season goes, before we start making judgments. And even then, our additions that don't seem so good at first might grow into solid players.

We've seen the first few chapters of the offseason and the regular season. Me, I'll keep reading. There might be a happy ending.

You know I like you cardsfanmd, you're a good dude, but I have to respectfully argue a couple points from your post.

By not restructuring Fitz last year Graves has now let our most consistant defender go.

Our most consistent defender? When did we lose Adrian Wilson? If you're talking about Pace, I think maybe you're over valuing him a little. I like Pace, I wanted to keep him, but I don't think he's worth the money Miami threw at him, and wouldn't have kept him for that price regardless of rather or not I could have afforded it. You're upset that we lost a potentially good player, I share your frustration, but lets not pretend Calvin Pace is more then he is.

Now he will get Fitz a new deal in the near future and some of you will consider that a success. Enjoy the good feeling while it lasts I tell you, because it will be short lived.

Depends on when they sign, for how much, and how much we lost in the process. As much as I don't like losing Pace it's something I can live with, I still think we're ahead if we resign Fitz because Pace is easier to replace then Fitz. Hopefully though, we don't lose too much waiting for him to get off his ass and sign.

Another reason why I want to get rid of Fitz. If Fitz takes this deal, you can gurantee that one of the following players, Adrian Wilson, Darnell Dockett, Karlos Dansby, or Anquan Boldin will not be a Cardinal in a couple years. My bet is it will be Boldin, and I would rather have Boldin then Fitz.

Before some of you come on here and question my loyalty,

Won't happen. You have nothing to prove to anyone. You're frustrated and rightfully so, I just ask that you take a breath and give the rest of FA a chance. We don't yet know for sure what the Fitz deal will be (if any) and what effect that will have on our future. So far all we have lost is Pace who if you really look at it was over rated to begin with. We're definitely not dead yet.

All of that seems small, compared to the real dilemma. How do I get thru next season without wearing the Fitz jersey my wife got me for Christmas and still not break her heart????????????

Yep, I have a similar problem. Every season I buy 1-2 new Jerseys and last year I was dumb enough to buy Fitz. Now I can't even look at it without being disgusted. I'll be rockin #7, #24, or #81 next season.

I think CardsfanMD is saying that this kind of crap is EXACTLY in line with what has caused us to be so bad for so long. It's frustrating. This off-season is starting to resemble the '98 off season for me. Once again we get our hopes up only to have the leaders at the top cut us out at the knee. Any brief success or optimisim we have is likely to be screwed up and it's damn frustrating to watch.

I'm going to tell you this. We need to trade Fitz now or we are going to lose Boldin in two seasons. There is no way we keep both. Maybe that's the better move because of Fitz's durability but I don't imagine NFL players have much more trade value then Fitz does right now. But again as others point out - even the amunition of draft picks and cap space is just bound to be screwed up by Rod.

I'm not being cynical. Or even original. But what has this guy ever done where you have sat back and thought "Thats a good, sound football move"? Even his biggest success was out of dumb luck (Consider the Cardinals had Bryant Johnson rated ahead of Boldin before citing that master stroke).

I just wish they would hire a innovative young guy like the DBacks did with Byrnes or even like the Cards did with Wiz. Or even an established GM like what the Seahawks did with Ruskell. Give Graves the "Director of PR" and have him cut ribbons and kiss babies if you like him for the organization and the way he represents it.

But please, for the love of god give the football decisions to someone who knows how to make them.

Please.

The only turn of events that can alter this gruesome history you prognosticate is Matt Leinart turning into a star over the next couple years.

Only a golden boy-do everything QB is going to lead us out of this Graves/Bidwill led morass.

Yeah that was way out from left field. Most consistent defensive player? Consistency implies maintaining the same level of performance over time. Pace was a spot starter until this season, he never made any game changing plays. Up until about mid-season everyone couldn't help but mention him as a first round bust.

I guess rhetoric isn't confined to Politics.

Why does everyone want to get rid of Fitz? Why not Boldin? As much as I love Q, I think Fitz is a better and more talented player. What about ALL od Q's injuries? Again, why not get rid of Q?

I will tell you what. If Fitz gets this new contract there won't be a choice about it.

And your right. Taking my heart and love of Boldin out of it that is the smarter football move.

You're right. You and Rod Graves know a player's value better than Bill Parcells.

Calling Calvin Pace our most consistent defender is far from the truth. He didn't start for his first four years. He is no where near consistent. He is not even the 7th best player on defense and even that is debatable.
Let me start off as saying that you are one of my favorite posters on the board. That said, you really dont know much about what you are talking about on this subject.

Pace is a 3-4 OLB, plain and simple. It isn't his fault that a bunch of idiots drafted him into the wrong system and position. He played all 16 games this year. How many other players on our D did that????? He racked up 98 tackles and 6.5 sacks. Who had better stats that that? The correct answer is NOBODY!

Furthermore, no team, and I REPEAT NO TEAM can keep every single player they draft from year to year. In the age of free agency it does not happen. That is why as an organization you must find a way to replace what you lose each year.
Another thing you apparently fail to comprehend. Good 3-4OLBs dont grow on trees. Next to good QBs they are by far the rarest breed in the NFL. Come tell me different with some proof and I will gladly back down on that point.

The Patriots team that won their first super bowl is vastly different than the one that lost to the Giants this year.
I missed the point here. The Patriots have made a point to keep their important core players (like LBs) while constantly replacing properly less valued positions SUCH AS WR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

With all this said, I cant wait to put down some beers with you this year at a game. I am gonna try to be at the Wash, Philly and Jets games and either Foxboro or Carolina as well.

Because Boldin's contract isn't hamstringing us in FA and because you won't get as much for Boldin as Fitz, right now you may be able to get a 2nd for Boldin. I think Fitz will have a longer career, but Boldin will put up almost as good of numbers the years he does play and for less. I'd love to be able to keep both of them, and I can't say I blame Fitz for the situation until I see the offers he's turned down, but its frustrating as hell coming off a promising season only to lose a good starter, and one of the best 3rd recievers in the league.

I figured if we could keep Pace, get a decent corner, and decent starting DE that can rush the passer better than Smith, and either a guard or tackle would would be much improved, now we have to fill the hole at LB. For those who think that Pace can be easily replaced, please give me the names and projected salaries they will command.

2007 will be known as a career year for Pace... The NFL has seen the best that boy can offer. The Cards were fortunate to get one decent year out of him - a year that will become known as his career year!

Because Boldin is not the one who we are about to pay 14.5 mill for this year. I have nothing against Fitz at all. The guy makes too much money for any team who wants to be successfull to pay for a WR. If Boldin were in the postion I would say the same thing. We aren't overpaying Q right now bud. You have to look past the field and consider what we are spending on these guys. Q is playing cheap right now and isn't 24 with no real injury history fresh off of a 100catch 1,400 yard season and worth a bunch in a trade.

I appreciate every player on the team and wish them the best of luck. Do not get it twisted though, I am a ARIZONA CARDINAL FAN.
