According to People, Dakota Fanning has been cast as Jane in the Summit Entertainment sequel New Moon.

The 15-year-old actress is set to star as a sinister vampire with an angelic exterior who works for the Volturi.

Filming of the Twilight sequel is set to begin in Vancouver later this month. The movie hits theaters on November 20, 2009.

"We did just get a script. We're shooting the rest of the films back to back," said Nikki Reed, who plays Rosalie Hale in the film.

Really? I had heard they were going low-budget on the sequel, which IMO would be stupid as all hell. They made some good coin on the first, and should step up. Hiring Dakota would be a step in the right direction.

Interesting. The initial rumor was that director Catherine Hardwicke dropped out after the studio wanted to crap out the film as quickly as possible as a cash grab, as the script wasnt even close to being compelte and the studio wanted to begin principle shooting.

The film hasnt begun shooting (according to wiki) and already has a release date 11/20/2009. There has been talk of some stepped-up CGI and other visual effects, so I'd be interested to see how they pull it off.

According to ShockTillYouDrop.com, actors Chaske Spencer, Bronson Pelletier, Alex Meraz, Kiowa Gordon and Tyson Houseman have signed on to star as the members of the wolf pack in Summit Entertainment's The Twilight Saga: New Moon.

In the story, the wolf pack defends humans against vampires although they have a tribal history intricately entwined with Edward Cullen and his family. The wolf pack members will join Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and fellow wolf pack member Taylor Lautner in the film directed by Chris Weitz which will be released domestically November 20th.

In "New Moon," Bella Swan (Stewart) is devastated by the abrupt departure of her vampire love, Edward Cullen (Pattinson) but her spirit is rekindled by her growing friendship with the irresistible Jacob Black (Lautner). Suddenly she finds herself drawn into the world of the werewolves, ancestral enemies of the vampires, and finds her loyalties tested.

Each member of the wolf pack is of Native decent. Spencer is Lakota (Sioux), Pelletier is Cree-Metis, Meraz is Purepecha (Tarasco), Gordon is Hualapai, and Houseman, who was discovered at an open casting call, is Cree.

Casting of the wolf pack was overseen by award-winning casting director Rene Haynes (Dances with Wolves).

The Twilight Saga: New Moon

Release Date: November 20, 2009
Studio: Summit Entertainment
Director: Chris Weitz
Screenwriter: Melissa Rosenberg
Genre: Romance, Thriller
MPAA Rating: PG-13 (for some violence and action)
Website: NewMoonthemovie.com

Starring: Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, Ashley Greene, Rachelle Lefevre, Billy Burke, Peter Facinelli, Nikki Reed, Kellan Lutz, Jackson Rathbone, Michael Sheen, Dakota Fanning

Plot Summary: In the second installment of Stephenie Meyer's phenomenally successful "Twilight" series, the romance between mortal and vampire soars to a new level as Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) delves deeper into the mysteries of the supernatural world she yearns to become part of—only to find herself in greater peril than ever before.

Following Bella's ill-fated 18th birthday party, Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) and his family abandon the town of Forks, Washington, in an effort to protect her from the dangers inherent in their world. As the heartbroken Bella sleepwalks through her senior year of high school, numb and alone, she discovers Edward's image comes to her whenever she puts herself in jeopardy. Her desire to be with him at any cost leads her to take greater and greater risks.

With the help of her childhood friend Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner), Bella refurbishes an old motorbike to carry her on her adventures. Bella's frozen heart is gradually thawed by her budding relationship with Jacob, a member of the mysterious Quileute tribe, who has a supernatural secret of his own.

When a chance encounter brings Bella face to face with a former nemesis, only the intervention of a pack of supernaturally large wolves saves her from a grisly fate, and the encounter makes it frighteningly clear that Bella is still in grave danger. In a race against the clock, Bella learns the secret of the Quileutes and Edward's true motivation for leaving her. She also faces the prospect of a potentially deadly reunion with her beloved that is a far cry from the one she'd hoped for. With more of the passion, action and suspense that made "Twilight" a worldwide phenomenon, "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" is a spellbinding follow-up to the box office hit.

I didnt see this movie, but the theaters were swamped last night. I'm not surprised. Reminded of me when the Star Wars movies came out.

Holy freaking crap man!!! Almost 73 million in one freaking day! WOW!

All time record and shattered The Dark Knight by almost 5 million! Unreal IMO.

http://boxofficemojo.com/news/?id=2626&p=.htm

My MIL and SIL (sis-in-law) contributed to that total. They saw Twilight at 9 PM and then the midnight showing of New Moon. They'll likely go back this week and see it with my other SIL. LOL

i'm beginning to think this will be one of the WORST series ever.....and at the same time be one of the highest grossing series ever.

My opinion is that it will be one of those series that, years from now, everyone who drooled over it will look back and be ashamed.
