As the Los Angeles Lakers prepare to face the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the NBA playoffs, they must prepare to corral Anthony Edwards, the Timberwolves' mercurial superstar guard.
He averaged 27.6 points a game and shot 39.5% from 3-point range this season, and he reached the 40-point mark nine times, including twice in Minnesota's last three games. He has gotten plenty of comparisons to Michael Jordan and late Lakers great Kobe Bryant, and much like Jordan and Bryant routinely did, he can win games almost by himself.
Lakers head coach JJ Redick admitted that his team has been preparing for the "Ant-Man" by having reserve guards Shake Milton and Bronny James pretend to be Edwards during its practice session on Wednesday.
As explosive as Edwards is, he may not even be the biggest issue Los Angeles faces in this series. The Timberwolves have a long and strong frontline that includes four-time Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert and former Laker Julius Randle, which means defensive rebounding could be a problem.
While the Timberwolves aren't an elite rebounding team, they did rank sixth in defensive rating and 25th in pace, so they may look to turn this series into a street fight rather than get out and run and make it easier for L.A. to get out in transition itself.
