For those that missed it, UW is driving down 6 with no timeouts left. Stanback completes a pass down to the 15 yard line of USC, first down. They rush up to the LOS to either run the play or spike it. Clear as day on replay you can see 5 seconds when the ref signals to stop the clock, and the timekeeper stops it at 2. IT's a home game for USC.

Willingham is out on the field demanding they put 3 seconds back on the clock, the announcers are both saying the same thing, should be 5 seconds. Pete Carroll is on the other side over and over saying "start the bleeping clock." Just livid, screaming at the refs over and over, one profanity after another(if it were a basketball game he'd have been ejected for sure).

Sure enough they huddle up, decide 2 seconds is right, start the clock and the game ends before UW can even snap the ball. The announcers then say they think the refs did the right thing and UW should have been ready but they couldn't the C can't hold the ball he has to wait for the ref to put the ball down and signal to start the clock, and by the time that happened, game over.

Pac 10 refs are sure not making themselves look good this year with all the mistakes.

Yeah that ending was a total train wreck all around. The refs blew by not reviewing upstairs from how much time to put on the clock. But then again Washington had plenty of time to be ready at the whistle. Then Carroll runs off the field smiling and laughing like a schoolgirl.

You gotta give the Huskies credit. Hard to believe they only won 2 games last year (I think).

I saw the game, and I thought the call was terrible. They waited forever to put the ball down and the refs were still right in there when the clock started. Washington should have been ready though. They did look lost.

The C and QB both refused to comment after the game on it but I was reading a Huskie board about it yesterday and they're claiming that the C and the QB both claim the refs told them to wait until the ball was placed down by the ref(which is what they did) and they all thought they were going to add back the 3 seconds so they did just that. Someone on the board said they replayed it in slo mo and the ref signals for the clock to start as he's literally backing out after putting the ball down instead of clearing the LOS as is normal(so that the C can get over the ball).

I do agree UW looked confused but I think largely because everyone was expecting to get 3 more seconds on the clock.

It also is being claimed that on an earlier play on the drive UW was called for a false start but they started the clock and ran off 4-5 seconds which they never added back on the clock, apparently UW is going to complain about that because it shows a pattern of "errors" by the guy running the clock that worked to USC's advantage(in other words they think the guy running the clock is a USC homer).

Just an ugly ending to a game.

Interesting. I wonder if the refs said something on the field to make the players think they were going to add time to the clock. Otherwise it was just some misguided wishful thinking on UW's part.

Guys on the dawgman board are claiming the refs told Pete Carroll they were going to start the clock, but didn't tell the UW bench or players so they were still waiting for the clock to be reset.

To be fair, UW too full advantage of the confusion, Willingham was out on the field talking to Stanback during it presumably saying what play to run. If they got the 5 seconds they were going to spike it.

Weird ending that could have been handled better but obviously theyr'e not going to replay the end of the game now.
