Since I was "painting the town red" in Detroit, I missed out on the Coyotes "White Out" experience.....

Anyways, who here was at America West Arena on 4/21/97 (when the Coyotes defeated the Mighty Ducks 4-1) when the "White Out" came to Phoenix ..or just remember the spectacle?

Personally I don't like the whiteout.... The people of Winnipeg invented it and it was their tradition. When the Jets became the Coyotes the people of the Valley adopted this practice. I think we should get our own tradition....

cool pics. i dont see whats wrong with carrying the tradition from Winnipeg to here. What else are we going to do? Brown-out? bring a wild coyote in from the desert-out?

I mean c'mon. I love the white-outs.

The White Outs are cool, but we could start a new tradition. How about all red and calling it "Red Heat"???

It's like the Atlanta Braves being brought to Phoenix, changing their name to the Arizona Diamondbacks, changing their uniforms, etc but still encouraging the fans to do the Tomahawk Chop to cheer them on.

Years ago, local sports radio host Tony Femino and his sidekick/producer Larry Gaydos asked for "Whiteout Alternatives." I faxed them my idea, which was for fans to wear light-brown/tan shirts and, instead of a brownout, call it the Sandstorm (something possible in a desert).

The only way to incorporate white here would maybe be to change the origin of its use: Make it a whiteout because of the white hot glare of the sun in AZ, or something like that...not some old tradition linked only to Winnipeg and not AZ.
